Default Jaguar 4 litre engines does mine have Gen 3 tensioners?

Hi All I’m looking at buying a 4 litre s type v8 and have seen a video relating to the AJV8 engine (also in XKs I believe). According to this clearly knowledgeable chap all engines rolling off the line after 01/08/01 were fitted with the metal gen 3 tensioners. Can anyone confirm / refute this? Many thanks in advance.

It should be so - but note it is the Engine whose date matters, most definitely NOT the car's date. You need to read the date on the engine itself.

The engine number on the V8's is the year (2 digits) the month (2 digits) the date (2 digits) the hour (two digits) and the min. (2 digits) that the engine was made.

This is at the back of the engine, not on the lable at the front.

Thanks for this. The engine number on the V5 is what I’ve gone by. It puts the engine at 13th October 2001. Can I go with this 100 percent? Thanks

Thanks for this. I have the engine number on the V5. Presumably this is the same number as on the engine?

No. It could easily be wrong.

Not so!! You need to check the actual number on the engine to be 100% sure.
I think the change was at engine number 0008181043 or higher so your one with a 13th October 2001 date should be ok.
