My car is jumping into 1st gear? I have 30 days for dealer to fix. What might this be, please? Thank you in advance. KLR Oh and my Jaguar lives in Florida.

Welcome to the forum Klriess,

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to S-type forum. This is the place to post tech questions about your model.

My car jumps - When I am driving and come to a red light or stopped moment and then accelerate the car jumps, initial time, what in the world? It does not happen at every stop (yet).

So get the dealer to fix it. May be trans low on fluid... May be... well, it's their problem to diagnose & fix not yours.

low fluid, software adrift worst case valve body
so i would check the fluid fix all leaks update the the em tcm software clear transmission adaption and perform an adaptation if that doesn't work, then a valve body needs to be replaced

So, I have this same problem with my 2003 S-type 3.0 over 137,000. I had the transmission checked and was told there was nothing wrong with it. Would that leave the valve body to be bad? There has never been a check eng light on for this issue. It's acted this way for many years & even when my MIL owned it. This is a hand me down vehicle from my in-laws.

Has the automatic transmission ever been serviced...? At 137K miles it is coming around for needing a service the second time around...

My S-type displayed similar behavior and a full service [including a new pan/filter and the proper ATF] put it right...

BTW, piggybacking on a 6+ year old thread is rarely a good idea. In the future, start a new one; the title on this post states 68K miles and your car has nearly twice that mileage...

Ah the dreaded "Lurch" strikes again!

Do some searching on "The Lurch" and Jaguar to see the long history of this problem and how to reduce or eliminate it.
In my old 2005 S-Type R after a fluid change and having the adaptations cleared it was just about gone "most" of the time.

Very glad the newer 8 speed ZF does not suffer from this.

I have no idea if it has ever been serviced. It was given to me at 115k. It has not since I’ve owned it.
