Hi,
I have a 2000 S TYPE 3.0ltr.
I have a copy of the JTIS and have some questions about it.
As an ex mechanic I find this app pretty lame. It seems to be very sketchy as to how to do anything. More of a procedure not how to actualy do it.
I am looking for something along the lines of a Haynes manual. Is there anything like that around?
Thanks for any information.

Hi,
As an example I am looking at replacing the ignition coils and plugs section. So arriving at the relevant section 18-20-40 Right Hand Bank it refers to another section 303-01A.... well this is the section that deals with engine removal !!!! Having to wade through all that stuff to try to find the bit that deals with the plugs and coils just does not make sense and is long winded. To just say "Remove the intake manifold" and then refer me to engine removal...... which has nothing about removing the intake manifold is useless, unless I am missing something? BTW I know how to this job... I was trying to use the JTIS as a check up. I also find these line drawings somewhat simplistic.
Here is another example:
A Pillar Trim Panel 76.13.31
1. Detach the door aperture weatherstrip. HOW?
2. Remove the A Pillar trim. Again HOW?
Thanks for any insight into this.

It's aimed at trained Jaguar techs. Emphasis on trained. It's not aimed at anyone else and indeed was not meant to escape from the Jaguar empire. For later cars you have to pay to get info from their TOPIx. (This is essentially true for very nearly all if not all makes, now. E.g. pay to get on BMW tech site - very costly.)

I looked at the two examples given, and as mentioned by JagV8, the JTIS presumes a certain skill level and familiarity with Jaguar vehicles. I have two other vehicles new enough to have OEM electronic shop manuals- one Japanese and one American. What they all share in common is the need for a certain amount of hopping around from one chapter to another to do a given repair.
I had to change a rear parking aid sensor on my SUV yesterday. The sensor itself only took 30 seconds to change, but a good half an hour of rear bumper cover removal and wiring harness disconnection that was detailed in two other chapters in addition to the specific instruction for the sensor.
JTIS is no better, no worse than other brands IMHO.

I agree that the JTIS is very thin on actual instructions.
I would suggest getting the JEPC (Jaguar Electronic Parts Catalog) which is also free on this site. It's the factory parts manual that the dealer parts people use. It has a lot more exploded diagrams to help figure out how things go together and come apart.
Also completely agree about the Haynes and Chilton crap manuals. They have been so wrong on so many things I refuse to even look at them anymore. Use the factory stuff only!!

Hi Guys,
Thanks for all the replies. I suspected JTIS was more of a memory prompt as opposed to a real workshop repair manual.
I don't intend to do much work on this car but but minor stuff like brake replacement, plugs, changing the anti freeze, oil etc. Anything else it will be a case of bite the bullet and get hosed in a garage.
I will try to find the suggested manual on E Bay.
Still trying to add my vehicle details on my profile. I have entered them but nothing is showing.... perhaps something to do with the probation period?
Thanks again.
