Key problem
I have 2002 s type in Australia. Cannot open truck glove box OR DOOR with key only with remote. Key works ignition OK.Truck works from remote also but glove box in front console is locked. Can't open it to get out manual. Just bought car from the bush and only one key. Thought I might have a valet key? did 2002 get supplied with Valet keys in australia.
My 2000 s type was supplied new with 2 keys . both do everything but when i pealed Jag logo off the key it said VALET. The car key that i have for 2002 also says valet but will not open door. any advice on how to break into glove box where manual is and who makes keys.

new sets of keys in australia could cost a lot of money. Got quote from Jag dealer for 1 key and remote for $800. Strange thing is my other Jag keys S type 2000 4Lt are marked Valet however open all things and .car manual refers to 2 sets of keys and remotes and no mention of valet key. Maybe in Australia we didn't get valet key. The 2000 jag and the 2002 both keys are exactly the same length. I had read that valet key is shorter. Local locksmith looked into computer and said he believed that my 2002 key was main key Not valet key. But we cannot open anything with it. But it works ignition. To open anything must use remote. So it seems that I still have no choice but to break into the glove box in front of passenger Knees. Help.
The valet key should have a green head the others black, in the US anyway.
I wouldn't want to be without a key that opens the door.
You can convert a valet key to a regular key with a little filing IIRC.

This sounds like a car that had the ignition lock changed and it was not keyed to the car. You may need to get the key from Jaguar and get the ignition keyed to the rest of the car. If I recall Jaguar will cut a key based on the vin number of your car.
I would also say that the ignition lock was changed some time ago. If you have a locksmith around you that is not a Jaguar dealer, call him to take a look. I do not know how prices go in Australia, but probably the locksmith will charge at least half of the amount, the main dealer asks.
G'Day mate,
I had a similar problem, with an easy fix... All the key locks were full of dust and gunk... Appears the car had always been opened by the fob and never by key. A lot of WD-40, careful pressure and the use of a small flatblade screwdriver eased all the locks open and now all work just fine.
Once working, I cleaned them out with and used a littel graphite powder to keep them open.
Cheers,
Doug

That theory is entirely possible; however, to have that key not work in the glove box, trunk and door I am not sure. Good thought!
