Default Key Programming & Courtesy Light

Guys,

Super-thanks in advance for your time & advice.

1. Key Programming - I got this from URL below.

Jaguar S Type Information - Program Remote Key Fob

S-Type Remote Control Programming (Procedure 3) (USA MODEL PROCEDURE)

2.) Open the vehicle trunk.
3.) Turn ignition only to 2nd notch/accessory (do not start)
4.) Toggle your valet switch 4-5 times till you hear a chime (this indicates the vehicle is now in learn mode)
5.) Hold your remote button till lights flash and car will chirp once more to let you know remote has been set.
6.) Repeat Step 5 for all remotes.

What I dont understand is Step 4: what remote button on fob are they talking about & which lights flash?

2. Interior Courtesy Lights - is there a way to change length of time interior courtesy lights stay on? Would like to decrease time interior lights stay on.

Thanks again for any help,

Norman

The valet switch is in the glove box.
However, it is not fitted to all cars. I do not think the UK cars have it.
However it could also be in referance to te boot open button on the key fob??

There may be a way to change the interior courtesy light delay using the jaguar SDD software.
However, I have not seen this feature in the software myself as I only use it for what I need.

That procedure is for X300 keyfob transmitter configuration only.

As I have never ever heard of such a procedure, motorcarman probably hit the nail by saying that this a procedure for X300 only.
There may a be a small chance that there is a procedure for older S-Types to self-program the remote, but I have spend a lot of time in the past to come up with the answer:
For my S-Types (both after second facelift, i.e. after 2004) there is no way to self program remotes. It requires the help of a capable locksmith, who has an extremely expensive device to program them.

Any ideas on why a remote would work to lock the doors and set the alarm but will not open the doors? Thanks in advance.

That sound suspiciously like a remote, which works in principle, but the actual micro-switch behind the button for "open doors" is buggered.
You could open the remote, remove the battery in there and check the micro-switched with a multimeter: Check for contact - obviously: See, if there is contact when you press it. Get familiar first with those micro-switches by measuring an operational switch (the lock switch). Those micro switches normally have 2 contacts in parallel - make sure you are measuring that contact, which is relevant for the circuit by making sense of the circuit on the PCB.

So maybe there is a cold weld (a broken solder point) or the contact in a switch does not make contact anymore (corrosion)...

Yes. That could well be a failed switch in the remote. These can fail in the 'on' position stopping all function, but this sounds like it has failed in the 'off' position.
The best way to sort this is to repair the tiny switch as replacing the remote on an S-type is a bit of a pain and requires the jaguar software.

Here's my experience replacing the little switches inside the remote on my '02 V6:

If you're handy with a soldering iron, or know somebody who is, it was quite a simple repair.

The boot opens remotely and the doors lock and alarm arms remotely. The panic button works. The only thing that doesn't work is the unlock button. I guess that makes the solder connection bad for that button???

Yes, solder connection or - kind of more likely - that micro-switch itself. You can find those micro-switches online.
