Programming remotes
Hi
Just bought a showroom condition 2006 XK8 with 80,000km on the clock and am now exploring some of the features.
Is this function not a replacement for synchronising the ceiling "remote" buttons, which my car does not have?
this is the programming sequence I am referring to:
The procedure to program the remote fob or fobs is very simple and should take less than one minute. No tools are required.
All remote fobs available must be present when the car is in programming mode, so that they can be programmed at the same time as the new fob. Any fobs that have previously been programmed to the car will need reprogramming at a later date if they are not available when carrying out the following procedure.

- I posted elsewhere how I got a Jag dealer to enable the AUX port using their SDD system, after which I installed a Bluetooth kit on the AUX port
- Now for a question:
- my user manual tells me how to synch my garage and gates remotes with the car's system using the ceiling buttons near the ceiling light control, however, my car doesn't have those programmable buttons
- but I saw elsewhere on this forum that one can still program one's garage and gate remotes by engaging the ignition, engaging the high beam, flicking the high beam 4 times and then synchronising the remote fobs (that's if I'm understanding the procedure correctly)
- I haven't done this yet as I can't find anywhere where it confirms the procedure - is it reprogramming the car's remote or external, unrelated remotes that operate one's electric gate and garage doors?
- if the latter, how do I "tell" the car to open the garage door once the remote has been synchronised with the car?

1. Enter the car and sit in the Drivers seat.
2. Place the key in the ignition.
3. Hold the headlight flasher arm back – the blue “high beam” light will come on the dashboard and the headlights will come on.
4. Keep holding the headlight flasher back and turn the ignition key to position 1.
5. Release the flasher, and then flash the headlights FOUR TIMES. You will hear a “Beep” AND/OR see a small red light illuminate briefly on the Gear Selector on the fourth flash of the headlight – this is to confirm that the car has entered programming mode.
6. Program each transmittor (up to FIVE fobs can be programmed) by pressing any button on the fob. You will hear a “Beep” AND/OR see the red light on the Gear Selector with each press of a button.
7. The car must “Beep” or red light flash five times to complete programming. Therefore, if you are only programming one transmitter you should operate the transmitter 5 times.
If you are programming two transmitters you will operate one transmitter twice, and three times on the other.
8. Wait for the car to exit programming – this will be indicated by a final “Beep” AND/OR the red light on the Gear Selector.
9. The remotes are now ready to use.
Thanks

ThanksHowever, in my owners manual it describes the following feature:
One of the many convenient features in Jaguar cars are the buttons located on the overhead console that serve as remote garage-door openers. The buttons eliminate the need for keeping track of a hand-held remote.
My 2006 XK8 150 doesn't have the buttons in the overhead console. I assume there is no other way of synchronising the car with my garage and gate remotes.Any thoughts?
lstoch,
This forum is for the 2 seater cars produced by Jaguar between the late forties and the very early sixties.
If you do indeed have the aluminium-bodied X150 (as opposed to the steel X100), then post queries for your car here, where members with the same model range will best placed to help:
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xk-xkr-x150-33/
The procedure you have posted above is, as you say, for programming the key fobs.
The 'Homelink' transmitter (the three buttons) in the overhead console was a feature for the US market, but I'm not familiar enough with your car model to know if it was available in other countries. Others in the forum linked above will be able to give you better guidance.
Good luck!
Mike
