My X-type was damaged in an accident - other driver decided he'd back up at a red light and hit my car. Long and short of it is the insurance company totaled the X-type and I'm looking to get another car. Saw a 2002 3.0 S-type and wanted to pick the community's collective brains as to common issues I should look for when inspecting and driving the car before I make a purchasing decision.

Is it a post face-life car? If not I would really recommend looking for a newer one.

I bought a 2002 S Type 3.0 in April, '94. It only had 55,000 miles. I replaced a coil pack and updated all mainetnance requirements. It runs great and I love it!!

"post face-life car?" Sorry, not up on S-type references - what does it mean to be a "post face-life car"? Also, why should that matter? Thanks for the info.

The 2003 and up S types are far superior and the car looks about the same. You are getting the 6 cylinder so it's not as important as if you were dealing with the V-8.

Just the addition of the 6 speed over the 5 speed Ford transmission is a big plus. I know I have both transmission.

Good looking vehicle. As stated the pre face lift, 3.0, MY (this one you are inquiring on) is a solid vehicle. Stay away from the 4.0 that generally have timing tensioner issues.


This one looks good, although there are some pics that will not enlarge. Looks like the headlight lens will need to be reconditioned.
