Default Loud Alarm sound while driving STR

Driving out of London yesterday, I had just entered a tunnel (CD playing) when suddenly the cabin fills with a very loud constant beeping. The
audio audio
screen had been replaced by a blue screen that had Radio in top left & ALARM in the middle. I couldn't really take a long look as the lanes are narrow & traffic was solid. I turned off the stereo & it went quiet. Once out of the tunnel I turned the stereo back on & all normal. Never had this before in same circumstances, or ever. No codes, just the P1111 which is fine.. Does anyone have any ideas, please ?

Firstly, what is the age and condition of the battery? A failing or weak battery can cause all sorts of electrical 'faults' in the X200. With the ignition in the OFF position for ten minutes, there should be at a minimum 12.6 volts across the battery terminals. If not, the battery should be replaced.

It is always helpful if the vehicle details such as MY and other facts are included.

My signature isn't displaying. It's a late '02 car. The battery's pretty new & checks out OK. I'm not a new Jag owner & have done all the usual checks. I've asked some Jag dealer mechanics & some knowledgeable indies, but no-one has ever seen this.

Sounds like an aftermarket anti-theft device.

i might have thought that if it hadn't involved the screen & functions, that & being able to stop it by turning off the stereo. No, it's definitely something programmed in by Jaguar, I'm not sure what happened or why.

I really doubt that.

Just heard back from a friend of mine who used to run an S-type 2.7 diesel. Ex Jaguar press car and he was the first owner. The same thing happened to him about 5 years ago. He never got to the bottom of it. Bog standard car, just as it came from the factory.

Thanks for the replies.

Update: Looks like the tunnel warning/announcement system overrode my car stereo. Even though I was running with TA off & had the CDC playing, I always have the RDS on. The
Audio Audio
Hanbook, pg 2-8, last paragraph: PTY31 - Alarm (where broadcast), describes accurately what I saw. If something of national importance happened, I missed it 😊.

Especially restaurants in Salisbury (if you've seen the news).

I made reference to what it says in the Jag Audio manual. Seriously though, it's startlingly loud - too loud !

I'm happy to believe you. Sounds a nuisance.

Glad to hear you figured it out. I thought maybe your car had the optional Musical Taste Override feature and it rejected your taste in music.
