stephen, I've moved your post from the Feedback and Suggestions section (which is for issue with the forum itself) to the S-Type section where it will have greater visibility and members/techs familiar with your model can best assist.

as this is your first post, please stop by the New Member section and post an intro. In return, you will receive a warm welcome and some useful tips to navigate the forum

Welcome Stephen.

Please advise what year, engine, auto or manual, your car is. That way the people that can help are not all asking the same question.

The UK gets some specs in the cars the rest of the world does NOT get.

Good idea to add ypur vehicle details in the signature area of the CP (Control Panel), and it there forever.

Maaaaate.

I know its New Years, and we are all suffering, but please give us a clue as to the year, engine, of your car. Guess work today is simply too painful. Help us a tad to help you.

Sounds like an X200 wih a 5 speed 5R55N..

IF SO????????, change the trans fluid, do it a few times with a few days driving between such "drop and refills".

While you are under there, unplug the electrical connector on the LH side of the transmission, easily seen, and wash the oil out of it, and dry it off and replug it.

If it is the 5R55N I would vote that it is more likely a stretched shift cable.

If it does what you say then sounds chronically short of fluid. It was due a change at say 80K so you risk its destruction if not fixed. A decent autobox place is likely the best place or a jag indy who knows the ZF 6HP26.

+ heaps.

That trans is used in Ford, GM, Merc, BMW down here, so getting that fluid and filter changed NOW will not be that difficult.

The warning of self destruct is REAL, not just words.
