Need help identifying Idler Pulley(s) - 2006 S-Type 3.0 V6
Hello,
I am starting to get a chirp from one of the idler pulleys when I start the car cold in the cold weather. Chirp goes away quickly, but I'm taking this as an early warning sign. Serpentine belt is older, so I'm just planning to replace the belt and all idlers all at once as a preventative measure. Unfortunately given the time of year (short days), my work schedule does not permit me to actually see my engine in the daylight, and any free time at all is scarce.
Without the opportunity to remove pieces, I can't see what/where all the pulleys and accessories are, and I haven't been able to find a good pic on the internet.
VIN of the car ends in N60969. I think this diagram (purportedly for an 05) is similar to but not exactly the same as my '06:
- How many idler pulleys does it have? Looks like two?
- Green circle on the left (in attached image) -- is that an idler pulley? I can't see anything behind it that it might drive on the car. Mine looks smaller than in the diagram -- looks about the same size as the green circled part on the right.
- Green circle on the right -- is that an idler pulley?
- Belt tensioner (red circle) -- can I buy just the pulley, or does one have to get the whole tensioner?
Looking at the attached page from SNG Barratt, it looks like I need the highlighted parts, but I'm really just guessing. Two of the same idler pulley, just in different spots? Not a very helpful diagram! Can someone please advise? VIN N60969
Hi Tony,
The two pulleys you have runged in green are indeed the idler pulleys on the 3.0 and 2.5 petrol engines. As a matter of interest I checked out SNG Barratt here in the UK and they seem to sell the Belt Tensioner Pulley as a separate item.
Cheers,
