Need HELP, S-type problems!?
2001 Stype 3.0, when Climate control is turned on the Engine temp goes to red line wihtin one minute? But when climate is turned of completely the temp will go back down soon at high rpms.
Any diagnosis?
Any diagnosis?
Not a diagnosis but some questions:
1. Does it overheat any other time? Ie AC only on?, heater only on?, in traffic, etc.
2. When you climate control is on, does it work as it should?
3. Where there any previous systems, or did this problem start / happen all at once?
4. How many miles on the car? And what coolant related work has been preformed (if you know)
5. Have you pulled any codes from you car? Even know you engine light is not on, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t any codes ready to be pulled and reviewed.

Related questions:
A. have you had the car a while (how long?) when it did NOT do this?
B. any recent work done on the car?
C. will it do it (overheat) in Park? If so, check whether the fans start (or stop or change speed) in the two situations (and report here please).
D. with the cabin heater on Max does it still overheat and how hot is the air coming in the cabin?
E. if you can safely do so, feel (engine bay) radiator top and bottom hoses as the engine idles and especially if you can when the hot state occurs - do they warm up and which is the hotter of the two?
F. if you can safely feel things, feel the engine bay front radiator (a/c), and the radiator behind it (engine coolant) and the engine block - both when the gauge reports hot and when it doesn't and say what you found
G. pardon me for not knowing this but is it warm enough that a/c ought to operate and provide cold air - if so, with cabin heater on min (coldest) do you get icy air from the aircon?
(I'm thinking the a/c compressor could be imposing a real strain on the belt - which is also used to pull the engine water pump around.)
If you pull codes you really ought to check the CCM (climate control module) and preferably all others in case a pattern emerges. Sorry to say a generic OBD tool won't do that.
Also not a diagnosis but the early 3.0 has been known to have a harness rub on a bracket (rearish of engine bay, not sure exactly where but I think accessible from the top) and such damage can cause weird behaviour. Worth having a really careful look at every harness you can find - very cheap
I have a vague recollection that someone had this problem before. Using Search may be worthwhile. Apologies if either I'm wrong or it turns out to have been on www.jaguarforum.co.uk (when Search here won't find it!)

2. No
3. happened all at once.
4. 60,000 miles
5. No codes are coming up.

A. Owned it since 2003. This began this winter (a few weeks back) when the heater stoped working again for the 4th time since we bought the car. The relay valve box for the climate control, on the hot side stops working and we normally have it replaced. But the overheating has never happened before, this is the first time ever.
B. No recent work done.
C. No it does not over heat in park. But the fans start to cool the engine down at a high revolution speed.
D. The air coming in the cabin is cold.
E. Top one was hot, bottom one was cold.
G. Yes it is warm enough out here, and yes it gives cold air from the ac.
Thank you for the help, i was thinking more along the lines of a thermastat problem???

Could be a few things. Is the climate control working properly otherwise?
Take a rag or your hand and check behind the intake manifold by the firewall for a plastic housing...My guess is you will find a wet oil residue there...
If you do...Go to the IMT o-ring replacement FAQ..
