As people have said, if you like the look, that's of course a personal thing. But seemed you were expecting better performance.

you're right, he did specifically ask if they would improve braking performance, and you're right; they won't. (unless you're at the track, as BFSGROSS pointed-out)

I just wanted to point-out that often times we (not you, but car enthusiasts in general) label people who add dimpled / slotted rotors as "posers". But they do so without thinking about all of the other aesthetic-only enhancements that are derived from something which actually DOES work in another application, like on the racetrack for instance.

Ok, since my wife's car is nothing more than a daily driver, I plan on using the Bilstein B4 Sports shocks. How difficult is it to use these non-CATS v CATS? If it were something that she used for more than a daily driver I would consider making the investment in the CATS but as it is I am going Bilstein sports. This is on the rear of the car btw.... any helpful replies would be appreciated?

The Bilstien B4 shocks will not bolt up to a STR. The lower control arm is different for the STR. They will fit a regular S-Type. Sorry...checked.

I know that this says B4 but it says it will fit the STR Sport model. Ok will these work? If not please provide me with a link where I could order 2 ASAP. The wife is driving me nuts! Please and thank you!

It says it will fit the "S-Type Sport" non CATS model, not STR. Regardless, I've tried to attain the B4's but only to come to realize its bottom mount is not compatible to that of the STR. The STR requires shocks that have an upside down "U" welded to bottom of shock. All other S-Type shocks are straight on both ends.

Thanks bfsgross! It shows the front shocks as the ones with the upside down U and I just need the rear shocks. And is there anyplace I can find a pic of where to disconnect the rear CATS before I do a hard reset?

Ok, my wife's 03 STR Supercharged isn't showing any CATS related issues but it appears that the rear shocks have gone bad. (clunky, sometimes squeaky loud & bouncy) Could she just need to replace the rear shocks? This issue is on both sides at the rear.

Here is the link for the rebuild service: CATS rebuild for 275 a pop it seems like good value. I don't see the point of losing the dual damping if I can avoid it. Hew is the link for them new from Bilstein 380 bucks. Well worth it for keeping the excellent oe suspension imo.

If anyone does get the factory CATS struts rebuilt. Please post back the details, like price and time required and how the ride is.

Our STR's are pretty old now and more and more CATS struts will need to be replaced/rebuilt.

All 4 on my 2005 STR at 117K are still good. Longest lasting of any car I have owned yet. I was worried because of the electrical adjustments but so far they have held up great.

I few months back I inquired to the Bilstein tech staff about this rebuild thing. The answer was no, they do not rebuild the factory shocks even though it is a Bilstein shock. The factory shock is sealed and cannot be rebuilt, was their explanation. Me thinks they set us up for a repurchase.

Nevertheless, the link to the page you posted clearly states "A.M." and "aftermarket" rebuilds a few times...

Ah, but good news! They will rebuild your A.M. shocks

Well a Factory Jaguar tech first suggested the rebuild idea and provided the Bilstein contact info. It says right on the rebuild link "Complete rebuild of most O.E. Fitment, BILSTEIN products only)".

Sounds like factory rebuilds?

Maybe the factory tech can comment on how to get the factory CATS rebuilt.

Here is the thread discussing this;

I gave you the Bilstein America contact info in that thread -- why not give them a call yourself? Please do.
