Default Need tech's help please...new owner

My husband just bought me the cutest 2001 s type with a 3.0 6 cylinder engine. The engine light came on and it read off emmission codes. He replaced all four of the oxygen sensors, the mass airflow sensor, the spark plugs, the air filter, and checked the vacuum hoses. He reset the codes and the same emmission codes came up. P0171 and p0174...both for running lean on bank 1 and bank 2 before and after the catalyst. The safe engine light was coming on after he replaced the o2 sensors and would feel like it was going to stall. Now the safe engine code has not come on but it has stalled out on me several times. I really don't want to get rid of my little car, but maintenance is not cheap...specially in a shop. Please help with advice on what else it can be.
Thank you,
Lady jag

welcome ladyjag, may i suggest starting (re-stating) your question over in the s-type section? There's plenty of members over there that will see your distress and give you plenty of good advice. I know my 4.2 engine is a little different, but when both banks are lean, then there's a large air/vacuum leak after the mass air flow sensor, could be cracks in the air pipe that leads to the throttle body, a vacuum hose disconnected somewhere (brake booster is the first one that comes to mind, easy to knock off and miss), or I think the 6 cylinders had IMT o-ring problems...but again, I'm only going off of what i hear on other subforums. Best bet is to repost a new thread over there, and let them lead you to a new path of diagnosis. best of luck to you!

I've moved you over to the S Type section.
There's an elbow below the inlet manifold which always leaks on these engines, do you know if that was checked?

Sounds like a vacuum leak, check for the elbow as mentioned or the intake manifold gasket for leaks.

Lady Jag welcome to the forum.

Below is a link that your husband may find helpful. Within the thread there is another link to the "elbow" mentioned above.

Godd luck and besure to ask any questions or post up that you have gotten your S Type running code free.

There is a bulletin about the lower engine breather elbow but I don't see it right now. Check the IMT 'O'rings.

Sounds like some more diagnosis is in order.

Here is some info for fault finding.

When you log in, you're at a page which lists the sub-forums. Look down those quite a way and you'll see a small heading "Jaguar Models" then shortly under it you'll see "S-Type/ S type R Supercharged V8". Click on that link and here you'll be

BTW, chances are it'll be an air leak as has been said and yes probably that elbow.
