Default New to me 2005 S type

Wife has been drooling quietly, over the beauty of the Jaguar S Types for a long time now, just my size she says. I sure found a beauty today, an 05, & since it followed me home, can we keep it??? My experience is people get rid of a car when it starts to nickle & dime you to death. If your only option is having the dealer do your work, it becomes way too pricey to keep your old car. This one has a coolant leak in the overflow tank, at what looks to be a cracked nipple at the bleeder. Should be able to repair that with a brass one. The power steering reservoir level was low, no issues steering, but the fill tank appears to be leaking. May need a replacement if i can't repair itAll & all, if that's the extent of problems there is noneAre there any issues, with this model? I'm hopeful the 3.0 is as dependable an automobile, as my 4.2, 04 XJ8 is.What is Jaguar approved modification 004???

Congrats on the new to you S Type!

Have a look in the How To section at the top of the board. Loads of info for the 3.0. Many with kids or pics to help you along.

How many miles? Prolly needs spark plugs, IMT o-rings, trans fluid changed.

Use the search function to search for the coolant reservoir as it has been discussed many times on this forum.

The 3.0 litre has some unique issues that can appear such as DTCs P0171 and P0174, which you can also research using the search function.

Glad to see you're still with us...

Mileage is 60,024, the modification appears to be an emission upgrade of some sort. Took my code reader, got a pending 1111 which means all is well, before buying it.Will do the fuel, air, cabin, filters, with plugs, trans fluid, with filter change as well.Just like on my 04 XJ8, which needed all these, as well as a lot more parts as well as the work to install.

Don't waste your time attempting to repair the leaking coolant expansion tank - the lousy plastic these things are made of has several weak points that eventually crack and leak. You are far better off with a new one. Check with rockauto.com. I just installed a new one in my wife's 2006 XK8 for less than $60....

I was thinking what Jon said as I was reading my way down the posts...then he said it!
Yeah, it may be possible to fit a brass nipple, but it'll just spring a leak elsewhere that is even less fixable - fit a new tank.

If you are in it for the challenge - fit the brass nipple after you remove it and put it on the shelf for temporary use in a couple of years when your new tank fails, while you wait on the web to deliver your next new one! They can normally be had from the dealer for about $100.

Found one 10 year guarantee, $35 delivered, ordered it, will look to see if the old one is worth a try or not.

Depends....The Official Jaguar part (used to, I guess still does) comes with the t-stat housing and all manner of stuff. Some sellers were offering the upper rad hose for the 3.0L with just the plastic molding and the hose - the plastic bit contains the "Tank Turret" which is the likely reason you'd need to renew it. Those models were considerably cheaper. Caution! You may need to transfer your temp sensor over to the new hose, even if you spring for the dealer part.

Now, if you want to talk about an expensive hose in terms of $/in....there's one behind that upper rad hose (May even connect to it, I can't remember) that is $120 plus and only about 6" long! I did a how-to here somewhere on it....can be made by cutting a piece off of a $10 hose...
