Default newbe needs help please

Hi guys - first time on the forum and would appreciate some advice/help. My 2003 2.5 S Type has just decided to stay in neutral, the gear shift lever can be moved anywhere and the N position stays lit. The parking brake does not come on when the lever is in park but operates ok with the handbrake switch. The solenoid in the gear shift module does not seem to make any movement when you press the brake pedal (brake lights come on ok), and can be manually left in the activated/deactivated position. Hope this all makes sense and someone can shine some light on the problem

PS I only have had the car 1 week and am not fully familar with the common faults etc

Many thanks in advance

There are two M6 bolts that secure the transmission linkage that are known to loosen and fall out.
You can find them between the transmission and the side of the tunnel on the left side of the car.
I think Vance580 showed them in his oil change video if you serch for that.

Here you go look about 1:20

Just noticed my reply to Norri is not showing. The advice you gave was spot on and one of the bolts was missing. Cut a longer M6 to size and ran a die around it to clean the threads. Fiddly getting it in but it eventually caught the gearbox threads which were slightly burred due to the bolt working its way out. Many thanks, don't know what happened to yesterdays reply.

No worries - it's great to know it's fixed and so cheaply!

Nothing like an easy and cheap fix.
