The oil pressure sending unit switch should be on the oil cooler assembly (where your oil filter hooks up to) bottom front of engine behind radiator. What would make you think your oil pressure could be low? VVT issues?

Exactly, fault code p1388. dealer put in 20-50w oil, fault still came up. I took valve cover off, no sludge in head, checked solenoid and wires, both good. Dealer recommends rebuild or replace. 145k on motor, no leaks, uses maybe a qt between changes (every 3000 miles). Keeps throwing fault code. Can't get through emissions so I can't reregister. Any ideas?

You've checked you're not affected by TSB S303-09 about "False Flagging of DTC P1383 or P1388 - Reprogram PCM"?

Sal16 - if you have the 3.0 V6 check out the TSB JagV8 mentioned. If you have the 4.0 V8 engine the TSB doesn't apply. I had the same issue with my 4.0 V8 - P1388 - here's what I did... (after going through the ordeal of changing out the VVT solenoid myself and getting a $1,500+ quote to replace the VVT actuator, which I wasn't going to pay!)

Get that 20W50 oil out! Odds are the VVT passages are blocked up with oil gunk residue and the 20W50 oil will make matters worse!

* When your engine is cold, pour the engine flush in and run the engine at idle for about 20 minutes - then drain that 20W50 mess out.

* (For V8 engine) - Install a new oil filter and 6 quarts - 5W20 oil (cheapest brand is OK) and 1 quart of ATF fluid (Mercon IV or V) - transmission fluid is highly detergent - and drive around. (change every 1,000 miles with 6qt cheapie oil, new oil filter and 1qt ATF)

* If you have the V6 engine - subsitute 1 qt of oil with ATF fluid.

* I did the above for 1K miles and changed the oil out with fresh oil and ATF and within 50 miles of the 2nd oil change for the VVT passages to clear out and the P1388 code to go away. It's worth a try.

After going through that ordeal - I use only 5W20 Mobil 1 EP - synthetic oil

Abonano, thanks for the info. I did flush and put in 5-20w (I just forgot to mention that) I'll add a gt of ATF and drive it. Does the check engine light go off by itself when systom works?
JagV8 what's TSB5303-09, is it the dealer that would regram the PCM, and sorry I don't know how to get into my member control panel but I have a 2000 s-type, 3.0,
145,000 miles. I'm generally great with my hands but need longhand explanations; sorry.

Finally the car info is revealed after kicking and screaming.
So much time and typing could be saved by car info in the first place!!

Sal16 - I'm surprised if you took the car to the dealer they would not pick up on the TSB unless the TSB was completed on the vehicle. Remember, you need to subsistute 1 qt of oil with ATF - if your at capacity with 5W20 either drain a quart of oil or just leave it alone for now.

Yes, once the VVT acuator lines are clear the CEL should go out after a few trips where the OBD II doesn't flag the P1388.

abonano - Just got back, flushed my engine and put 5 qt of 5-20w and will add 1 qt of AFT in morning and going for a drive downstate on personal business. I will call dealer in morning before I leave to see if they did reprogram; but doubt it. Thank you. I'll let you know how things go.

Gus, thanks for link but it shuts down my computer every time I try accessing it. I can't figure how to work around that?

The direct pdf link works and the base page works, don't know about any links on the base page itself.

When it comes to PDF files, it is sometimes dependent on the particular reader and version that the user has installed. Something that is fine in one reader can bomb another reader.

You should have an "update label" affixed in your trunk if the reflash was completed.

Check here also:

Enter your dealer number and the date on the Authorized Modification Label as
shown (Illustration 4). Write in
Reflash per TSB S303-09/S307-07.Apply the label
to the left B-post below the door striker plate. Be sure to apply the clear protective

sheet over the label.

abonano - The "check here also:" isn't working for me

sal16 - you need a working PDF reader. TSBs are on this site just see the forum stickies you've ignored so far

motorcarman - agreed! I sure wish the site required car details before allowing a post

JagV8 - The "check here also" was pasted from the actual TSB to give Sal16 guidance where to look for the label on his car to see if the re-flash was already performed.
