With the MIL ("check engine") on, there's at least one DTC (code). The monitors are then irrelevant as it's a fail due to the MIL.

Once the code(s) is/are fixed it's then time to see how the monitors are.

The comment they made is sort of helpful - maybe.

Anyway... good to hear it's OK now!

Your findings about O2 sensors is new to me (proper replacements have "just worked" till now) and hopefully will help others in the future.
