P0306 Misfire and valve cover gaskets and water leaking...
Hello all
I could sure use some advice. I recently purchased a used 2000 S-Type V6 with 80000 miles. (Beautiful Car) First of all, this forum is excellent for information, thanks to all for contributing. I always use parking brake, avoid parking on inclines etc!!
The day after I purchased the car I took it in to local garage (not dealership) for oil and filter change. Everything worked great until a few days ago I got an incredibly rough idle and check engine light. I had anticipated spending a bit more on a tuneup but here is what happened.
Took it back to garage and read code P0306. The mechanic said there was a leak in both valve cover gaskets and this may contribute to shorting out a coil and causing engine misfire.
I have replaced all 6 spark plugs and all 6 ignition coils and replaced valve cover gaskets on both left and right bank.
As for how much it cost $$$ all I can say is ouch!
The car runs smooth again, but when it rains, it leaks water like crazy into the engine through the bottom of the windshield and where the windshield wiper is attached.
Any ideas what can be done to fix that so that I dont short out my new highly expensive $$$ coils?

The only thought that comes to my mind is possibly the "weep" holes under the black plastic cowl cover are plugged, which are there to allow any water to drain out. Maybe by leaves or some type of debris. Causing water to find a new path which leads to the engine compartment.
To check that out you will have to remove the wiper arms and all the push pull pins on the front of the cowl.
