I have a 2000 S-type 3.0 L with P1388 code.

Sent car to dealer, Jaguar Monmouth, Ocean, NJ. Asked dealer to correct the code for car to pass inspection.

Dealer stated the Powertrain Control Module, (PCM) sticker had the lastest SoftWare release "S139, 15, March 2001 ", and it is not worth it to re-install, because the engine and trans need to be replaced, (car runs fine).

Well, after viewing this site, I found out that no one should use this dealership for any repairs on older cars. They were too lazy to look up Tech Bulletin S303-9 and S303-S139, July 2002, I found on this site which hopefully will correct the problem.

Has any one used these updates to correct code P1388?

BTW, S139 appears to be the same thing you then describe as S303-S139

 

Had the same code on my 2000 3.0. I had the PCM reflashed and changed the oil/filter. That was about 1500 miles ago and no codes since.
