Default A-Pillar sticker -- what does it mean?

I was looking for the mfg date of my 2003 S-Type and I noticed this sticker, the one at the top.

Does anyone know what this means?

This is a long, long shot, but what do you guys think?

I previously posted on this site my issue with the transmission lurch, and have been directed to the TSB regarding the reflashing of the transmission -- which I have never done primarily because until now the car was not mine. Now that it's mine, I'd like to resolve the lurch issue if possible.

So, my question is this -- are these two issues related and if so after all these years do you think the dealership would have pity on me and fix the lurch issue without hosing me? (I know, snowball's chance in Hades, but I thought I'd ask!)

And, related to that -- the local Jaguar dealership charges a $150 diagnostic fee to every car that comes into their shop -- does anyone here know the magic way around paying that fee if I go in and ask for a specific thing like showing them the "lurch TSB" and ask them to simply do that work?

A main dealer will always sting you, but if you can find a good independant Jaguar mechanic, he'll be able to reflash the TCM for you using Jag equipment.

I had the lurch going from 2nd to 1st when I bought my Jag, got it reflashed for £50 at my local indy and it went away. Lately, it does seem to do it very vaguely if I stop quickly, so may need to be reflashed again at some point.

Thanks, I'll see if I can find an Indy that can do that -- I was under the impression that only dealers could do it.

I think there's not a problem with most dealers. They can reflash at a slightly expensive (hey, they're a dealer!) but not excessive price. Get a quote. It's 30-60mins or so. An indy can do it (heck you can probably DIY if you buy the tool and spend days figuring out how to use it). Lots of members have had a dealer do the reflash, with a fair success rate.

Done right, they also drive the car with a passenger using the tool. And you can help yourself by driving sanely without Sport mode for another 200 miles or so.

Many S-types, mine included, never got rid of the lurch entirely despite the factory software patches. I learned to just live with and drive around it as much as I can.

Chances of a freebie from the dealer are zero and possibly the car has already been flashed for this fix given it's age.

I'd go in and do just exactly what you're asking about: ask them to simply do the reflash.

Maybe they'll say"OK'.

Maybe not.

There's no magic formula because policies.....such as the flat $150 diagnostic charge on every car....vary from dealer-to-dealer. And some dealers are more rigid about their own policies than others, with case-by-case decisions made for various reasons...not the least of which might be their relationship with the individual customer.

Cheers
DD

It has, that's what the sticker is.

I am in the same boat. However mine is not the lurch but a slight delay from a standstill when I press the throttle.

There is only one dealer within 50 miles of me and that is 40 miles away.
The dealer told me $160.00 for the diagnostic.

I was wondering if the car is getting know me or if I'm getting to know it -- the lurch is less prevalent and actually absent on occasion. I've been driving it for a week or so without the sport mode activated, which is how you're supposed to drive it after the reflash. Is this my imagination or are we finally "bonding?"

It's a Jag version of a Vulcan mind meld. Usually doesn't hurt much.

Jags explanation for The lurch is that it's a result of a drift in learned adaptions.
In other words, the gearbox is learning how you drive.
