Power steering problem
Recently my S –type V6 2001 steering wheel dos not return to normal straight forward position automatically after turning more than a ˝ turn. I feel a slightly resistance when turning the wheel over a half turn – and I have to manually return it to normal straight forward position.
t feels like normal force is available to the power steering.
The oil in steering pump tank is on the max mark and no un-normal sound can be heard…
Any idea anybody?

I know exactly what's happened to your power steering, same thing happened to my S-Type.
The variable power assist has stopped working. This means that the steering is at full weight, like you were driving at highway speeds. Normally the steering gets lighter at low speeds or at idle to help with parking maneuvers.
Same thing happened to my S-Type. There are three possible causes.
1. Wiring break/short between the General Electronic Module and the Variable Assist Solenoid
2. The Variable Assist Solenoid has failed
3. The General Electronic Module has failed, the output circuit to the Solenoid is cooked.
Have a look here https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...2/#post1135364 you can see the codes and pictures of the solenoid.
In my case the wiring and the solenoid are OK, it's an internal problem with the GEM.
