The check engine light is on and these three error codes were pulled:
- P0420 - Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)
- P1576 - Pedal Position Not Available
- P1580 - Electronic Throttle Monitor PCM Override
To clarify the questions on the above post, we are looking for what these codes are specific to. Does each code have only one specific problem, or are there multiple things that could be wrong per each code? We recently purchased the vehicle and are new to the jaguar world.
p1580 is for TPS circuit fault. looks like you need a new tps sensor..
P1576 CAN data bus, accelerator pedal position (APR)
sensor - communication malfunction (probable cause) Wiring, APP sensor

420 and 430 codes are cat codes
If you follow the new member rules (you were told them aas part of signing up) enforced by the site you'll then be able to download things such as the codes PDFs. Yes most codes can have several causes. They're detailed in the PDFs.

You codes taken together would lead me to check for connector issues at the throttle body. Search on throttle body and you should come up with a ton of threads about it and what components to check.
The OBDII system is not Jaguar specific. As with all cars, codes DO NOT tell you directly what is wrong, but only point you to the component that the system detects a "out of range" reading. Example: Miss-fire codes don't automatically mean you have a bad coil. They can be caused by other issues like a vacuum leak.

Thank you for the information JOsworth and phd12volt. We appreciate your help in directing us to some possible causes and places to start.

I am attaching a photo with the TB plug, Remove the TB plug from the TB clean it with a contact cleaner ( I use CRC contact cleaner) make sure the electrical connections are clean and snug when installed. I hope this helps!
Your car is one of the early S-types and there were some issues with the throttle pedal assy. First it was the CREAKING pedal and then we had a rash of faulty PPS so there was a parts upgrade. You might need to clear the codes and if the fault returns you might need to replace the pedal assy.

Thanks everyone, this info has helped a great deal. We are not able to view photos yet, due to being so new to the forums. After the ten posts, I believe we can see the attachment.
We've been doing a lot of research and have found some great deals for parts online. Thanks for helping us get started!
