I found the answer to that question somewhere on the net, but it does not really work...:

The instruction was: Ignition on, and then within 60 seconds latch in the seat belt, wait for the red seat-belt light to extinguish, release seat-belt, wait for the red seat belt light to go off and repeat another 8 times, at the end of which you will hear a chime.
I did all that and it was even confirmed with that chime, but that very annoying triple ding-dong, when I sit down in the car and turn on ignition before applying the seat belt, still remains in place.

So my intention is not to drive without seatbelt - I do apply my seatbelt, but my order of doing things since ever is to turn on ignition and only then apply the seat-belt - and this habit of mine gets punished by this very annoying triple ding-dong, which I want to get rid of, but I can't... Help?

 

If possible, probably needs IDS/SDD.

 

What happens if you trick the switch into thinking the seat belt is always buckled? I'm like you, and wear my seat belt religiously but hate being nagged. On my old pickup, it was a simple matter to unplug the connector and no more buzzer.

Or is the Jaguar system smarter and needs to see the buckle open and close with each drive cycle? You could test this by inserting the buckle (behind your back, obviously...), getting out, locking the car, and then getting back in and starting the car with the buckle still closed. If that works, tricking the switch should be just the ticket.

Not sure if the switch needs to be open or closed to indicate the buckle is clicked. If the switch needs to be closed, you could install a jumper wire at the connector.

 

There was a 'rumor' when I worked at the dealer that buckling/unbuckling the belt 10 times in-a-row will stop the chime.

Never tried it so I don't know if it works?

 

FWIW, I tried this on my ‘02 and the chime was silent.

 

I'd try the buckle/unbuckling again, I've heard "rumours" that it works on a range of Jaguars including the F Type.
If at first you don't succeed.........

I've never heard a chime on mine, only the red seat belt light on the dashboard goes out when I buckle up.
Wondering if it was disabled when the car was very young prior to my ownership or whether it was ever installed?
Was this a feature on the previous X200's?

 

Ok, thanks for all the suggestions. I tried again, although I tried already several times yesterday.
I feel that it should work, because I do get that "confirmation chime" after the ninth time. But no.
I even tried, if doing it 10 times (once more after the confirmation chime). But also: No.
I guess I have to redefine success now (according to Karl)...
But yes, closing the seatbelt behind my back means the chime is silent the next time.
That means, the switch can be manipulated, but I don't currently feel like taking the S-Time apart, as I am working currently on an X-Type, and I don't want to put too many cars out of service at the same time...

 

Ok here's something interesting. The other night I tried your "in and out nine times" thing, got no special chime, so walked away and thought nothing of it.

Today I got in the car, started it up, went to reach for my seatbelt and realised that the reminder chime wasn't going off (it usually goes off by the time I reach for the belt). Drove all the way home (about 2km) without my seatbelt on waiting for it to start making noise... no noise. I seem to have disabled my seatbelt chime 😂

 

@dangoesfast: The car mentioned in your footer is a 2018 XE-S. Is that the car, where you were able to kill the chime, or do you have an S-Type as well, where the chime-kill worked? If so, which model year?

 

Sorry I should have mentioned I'm talking about my 2018 XES. Maybe the 'nine times' thing only applies to some models?

@Peter_of_Australia I know this doesn't help you with your car, but a few drives later and I haven't heard my chime at all. I unclipped my seatbelt at full speed on the M1, nothing.

I've wanted to get rid of it for a while now, so thank you for posting this trick!

I am still hopeful that I can get rid of the ding-dong, once I have enough time set aside to take care of it (disconnecting a switch or shorting a switch).
And as I mentioned before: I don't want to drive without seatbelt, but I have my way of doing things: Ignition on first and any then seatbelt on. I am driving various cars/Jags and I don't want change my habit due to the ding-dong in the S-Type. Also: I don't want to put on a seatbelt, while driving in my own driveway after stopping at the mailbox...

You can tell the following ding-dong joke (when the S-Type makes doing-dong) only every so often, then is becomes boring:
Ding-Dong! (The door of the shop opens...): What can I get you?
Customer: A bottle of French fries (= chips) !

Why is that?

The buckle - unbuckle procedure works on a slew of Jaguar/Range Rover/Land Rover Models. Including very recent ones, much newer than the X204.

Peter have you tried any other quantity of repetitions? I've seen 8,9 & 10 mentioned but it's strange that you get the ding, maybe the function is disabled in some markets?

 

I've tried 9 and 10. Confirmation chirp always after 9th, but to no avail...
As mentioned: I will do the switch-manipulation some time soon.

 

Are you sure that won't affect the airbag operation?
