Default Quick Question

I've never had a Jaguar before this, so I simply don't know. My 2002 S Type 4.0 (I just got it 3 wks ago with 9,744 miles on it) does not have an under carraige splash guard (I'm not even sure what this is called). The car has only been to the dealer 4 times. The undercarraige is spotless! But I do not have a splash guard. Did the 2002 model not have one? I am the second owner and know the first owner. Any guidance? Thank you and sorry fot the silly question.

No silly questions here - yes, the part you are referring to is the "lower valiance panel" and they do find their way off the vehicle when components needs to be serviced... hoses, radiator, DCCV - you can search Ebay - they don't pop up too often and the ones that do are often trashed.. yes, te 2002 MY would have had one from the factory...

I recently found one off the forum and had to fix up a soft spot with aluminum sheeting and a few rivets to ensure the integrity of the panel would hold up.

Try a salvage yard...

Not silly at all.

Here's the section from the Parts Catalogue to give you an idea of what is missing. The Valance is item 8:

There's a few different types depending on VIN. The later models also have more fixings than the earlier ones. The need for that design change might explain how they go missing!

Graham I think there is a much larger panel that goes under the engine, the front fixings are the three tabs where the Item 8 is pointing to.
I can't find a illustration right now.

Wow! Glad you posted that schematic! I actually have that piece, I was thinking there was a larger piece behind it, covering the oil filter and the oil pan.

There is another large piece that you are thinking of. That schematic seems to be just for the bumper parts; the splash shield will be another part.

There are 2 panels. The forward one (above) is smaller. Then behind it (and fastened to it) is an engine undershield. Has 2 rear fixings, 2 centre ones, 5 front ones (of 2 types). At least, that's what mine has, not sure it'll be the same on the earlier car.

Wreckers will have them but shipping will be horrific I guess.

Yes, you get to take it off for oil changes but it's quick once you're used to it.

OK, got with the dealer. This is called the Undertray Panel. Dealer wanted $604.85 for the panel and the clips! Cheapest I could find it on the web was a bit over $400.00 with clips and shipping. Called the dealer and explained the car had only ever been serviced at their facility and clearly by its condition they could see the car was not driven much without the panel. I am the second owner so this was left off during service for the original owner. Well the dealer must have felt sorry for me because they will sell me the part with clips for $360.00. I'm not happy, but at least Bluff City Jag in Memphis was somewhat reasonable, I guess. Thanks again for the help guys.

hmm, welllll, better than the alternative but kinda feels like they left it off and it's in their workshop. Can't see a way to prove it, though!

Ok, quick update. I went to the dealer to pick up the panel, only to find it was the forward Valance Panel (item 8) that I already have. My car was made 06-2001. The dealer could find no other part in the manual. There happen to be another 2002 S Type in the shop, it did not have the Undertray Panel either. I'm thinking that mine is early enough that it does not have one. If anyone has other info or some pics I would appreciate the info... Thanks for your help.

Should be in JEPC - free on here.
Or the PDF parts is online but hard to use if you'd rather struggle.

Only 10k miles on a 10-year old car? Wow!

Yes, I got very lucky. I did pay a premium, cost me $10,800.00; but it had 9,744 Miles when I pulled out of the guys driveway! New tire arrive today. As for the under tray, I'm almost positive that the early ones (2000 - 2002) did not have the larger panel. Looked at on in the parking lot today, it did not have it either...
