Default Radiator fan not cooling, only runs one speed

I have a 2004 Jag S-type V6 and staring this summer the A/C will not cool when stopped in traffic or sitting still. I did take it to a shop and they check the freon and topped it off. I discovered this issue is the radiator cooling fan is only running on low. I was thinking that when the A/C is turned on it should run on high. The car does not overheat, and when going down the highway it cools great.

How can I test to make sure the cooling fan is getting the signal to run on high when the A/C is engaged? also is there a fuse or relay I should be looking for to test? Also my back up indicators quit working as well.....is this something of an electrical gremlin on the s-type Jags?

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

If you check the workshop manual ($10 ebay) I think you'll find there's a control module driven by the PCM, i.e. the PCM chooses the speed and the module should then make it happen. It doesn't look like you can easily test them (though I understand the dealer tool can).

Maybe a tech will post details.

Did you find a solution to your problem? I'm having a similar issue.

Same question I asked the other poster, did you check the workshop manual?

If yes, what was working and what not?

I have not obtained a worksho manual. Still having same issue since first post. Guess I need to locate a shop manual or sell the car soon

yes I have all data but its not as in depth as I would hope and I find no tsb on the subject and no opp & discrip on specific cooling system items.

The fan speed is determined by the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) and the air conditioning pressure and transmission oil temperature. In my case all pre rec's have been met for full fan speed.

Since Ive had a new fan + cooling fan control module and ECT sensor installed there are not to many more options left.

My Questions:
1. I see there is a Radiator Cooling Fan Temperature Sensor / Switch but no information on it, can I get a operation and description on it and the location?

2. Is there any re-programming that needs to be done after a new fan+CFCM?

Have you replaced any items or done any thing to try to correct the problem?

Do you have access to a high and low A/C pressure gauge set?

Since we have the same problem with the high speed fan setting not coming on when you turn the AC to max cool, I'm wondering if the A/C pressure is not high enough to kick the full speed on since the computer is looking at AC pressures.

I noticed I have some pressure problems with my A/C.
Low side 68psi
high side 170psi

I would like to know if your pressures are similar?

Have you discovered a fix for this? Im still having the same issue, the cooling fan never kicks on high, but yetbthe temp gauge always remains in middle after running for a while. I think it has to be overheating ?? But gauge never moves past middle

Some things to try: check ECT reads correctly, check a/c pressures, check all a/c-related sensors. But first check relevant fuses & relays.

I don't think your car is over heating, I think it cools so well it doesn't need the assistance of the high speed fan setting. I think the high speed fan won't kick on when you put the A/C on because your A/C pressures are not correct due to compressor failing. If you post your high and low A/C pressures I can confirm this.

Or if some one can tell me what freon pressure the computer is looking for in order to kick the fan on that would answer my question also.

Could you post your high and low side A/C pressures @ idle after the recharge?
To confirm, your fan would not run at the high speed setting with A/C on Max?

The solution to our problem was the compressor. My compressor wasn't making enough pressure for the computer to kick on the high speed fan setting. I changed my compressor and now I have great A/C and the fan is getting switched on high.

My pressures before were around 70-140 and now its 36-195
