Default Radiator replacement, Jag brand required?

At 91k miles, my daily driven 2004 S-Type (V6, base) has developed a slow coolant leak from the radiator and, therefore, needs a replacement.

The radiator Jaguar quoted my local shop is $580. The radiator that fits my model on JagBits is about the same.

Nearly $600.00 seems a bit steep for a radiator, when Summit Racing have two that will apparently fit a 2004 S-Type, a Lincoln and a Ford of some type (leading me to believe the radiator is a Ford part), the most expensive of which is $117.00.

Is there a compelling reason to choose the Jaguar radiator at nearly five times the price? Does it feature better construction, more efficient engineering or a better warranty? The shop owner is a friend and he’ll happily sub out the part if I can get one that’s just as good for less money. While I want to save a few dollars, I don’t want to do so, only to incur a bigger expense later, by buying the wrong part.

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance,
Rhett

if you have the automatic gearbox, as I suspect you do, then you'll need a radiator with the integral gearbox cooler. The $100 radiators generally do not, and fit the S-Type manual cars. I don't know the true figures, but suspect USA sales were 90%+ autobox vs. manual, while a search for replacement radiators would indicate the exact opposite.

Do a thorough search of this forum; seems there was a post or two within the last couple years where some chaps had linked to an affordable radiator with the integral gearbox cooler.

The Rock Auto radiator (NISSENS 66708 {#C2C1448, C2C36506, XR847964} w/ Transmission Oil Cooler) is a new addition because a few years ago the correct w/trans cooler was MORE expensive than the dealer.

I don't know if it is correct but it is listed as such.
