does anyone know if the 2000 s types 4.0 require a radio code? i have disconneted the battery many times without prompting for a code after the battery is re-connected. I want to do a hard reset with the battery cables, but other posts warn to have the radio code before you do that. I cannot find any info that states my year/type jag requires one.

Not in the USA. Needed here or if your radio is set for the wrong region, which you'd likely already have found by now!

 

I have changed the battery on 2 S-types, and neither asked for a code. If needed though, you can just contact Jaguar's 1800 number and they can give you the code after proving ownership.
