Default Replace S-type Nav unit.

2000 S-type Nav unit.
I understand this topic is old, but I'm looking for new info.
When I purchased this s-type, the previous owner had removed the original Nav unit screen. From the little I've read about this system. There is another component that it needs where a CD is inserted.
If that is correct. Where is this unit mounted?
The previous owner has modified the bezel and mounted a Garmin. The Garmin seems to work fine other then the fact that it is hard to view due to it's small size.
Now what I am considering is removing the OEM cassette radio and installing a new CD touch screen with GPS. Then finding a replacement storage unit for the slot where the Nav was. I'm thinking that I would be way ahead on the technology compared to the OEM nav.
Any thoughts on this? And if so. Does anyone have a recommendation on an aftermarket unit.
1. If the CD unit is still in the car and it's location. Could I simple put a replacement Nav unit screen in the dash.
2. Does this make sense since no updates appear to be available.
3. Would I be way ahead if I just installed an aftermarket audio/GPS unit in place of the OEM radio.
4. Is there a brand that most would recommend or better yet. A brand to stay away from. Since I don't need the headache.

Any help would be appreciated.

OK.
You did suggest I start a "new tread".
No problem. I actually thought I had the first time, but be that is it may.
I do have other questions that I could use some help on. It would save me a great deal of trouble by hearing what others have tried. I'm not really interested in turning this into an experiment. I turned to this forum because it seemed wise to find out what real Jag owners know about this Nav system.
I've heard both good and bad. Where I live there have been a great deal of changes in the road and highways. So a more up to date system would make sense. And if Jag has not offered updates through the last ten years. Then it would seem to be a bad choice in my circumstance.
You suggest that I choose any unit. The cost difference in these units is rather extreme and I have to wonder if it's justified. Would a $300 dollar unit work as well as a $600 or $1200 dollar unit. I was hoping to hear from anyone that has purchased one of the less expensive units that would be more in my budget at this time. Just looking for something to make my wife a little more comfortable. It is her Jag. Just like the first one was.

I wouldn't bother with putting back the original stuff, try a search for audio upgrades here and also try the X Type section and the audio section.

After market here we go.
I have researched these double Din units and there is a larger variety available.
I was hoping someone had a recommendation. Pyle? Planet Audio? Tview? Power Acoustik? These units are more in my budget at this time.
Pioneer, Kenwood and Clarion are a little outside my budget right now.

Most online shopping sites include ratings for products they sell. May I suggest you buy the highest rated device in your price range.

Hey Flash, that sounds like a totally novel idea. Now why hadn't I thought of that.
Because,,,,,,,those reviews do not specify the type of vehicle the unit is installed in.
The review helps in regard to whether they like the unit and it's features, but doesn't help me with the important part. That would be the installation. It needs to fit properly.
The install could be a breeze or it could be a nightmare going in to a Jaguar.
