Red face retiming 03 s type 3.0

Hey guys,
I messed up and lost the timing on my s type. I was trying to free a sticking valve bucket, and forgot to secure the exhaust cam. BNelieve me, you can't possibly be calling me worse names than I did. That being said, can anyone tell me two things: 1) should I reuse that same head, or replace it? and 2) can anyone tell me how to set the timing to match the other side? The other side (right) never lost its timing. I tried using the "old" method of getting #6 to tdc (firing order 143526), then bringing #1 to tdc, and positioning the cam for the power stroke. But, I'm hearing that the flats on the camshaft must be considered. Can Brutal, or some other expert please advise? Thanks in advance.

Sorry can't help you with replacing the head question, but..

JTIS is a free download here that explains in great depth how to repair and replace everything.

I did not read your "old way" of setting the timing on either JTIS or alldatadiy.com (paid subscription). I hope this helps:

CAUTION:*Do not rotate the*crankshaft*counterclockwise. The timing chains may bind causing engine damage.

Rotate the*crankshaft*clockwise until the crankshaft keyway is at the 11 O'clock position, the alignment mark on the left-hand intake camshaft sprocket is at the 9 O'clock position and the alignment mark on the left-hand exhaust camshaft sprocket is at the 2 O'clock position.

Have you downloaded my copy of the Jaguar Engine Course 168???????
I had my student guide copied at a copy-store converted to .pdf and uploaded it to this site in the large file area.

It has ALL the info you need to repair your engine.
I cannot post it to this thread as it is over 24 MB.

Good point - he may need a moderator upgrade to be able to get it, though.
