Sorry for making this as my first post but I've been given the possibility of a jaguar but it's making a large knocking noise, I'm wondering if anyone here would have more of an idea of the issue it has?

I'm not an engine guru of any sort, but my guess would be a failure of some degree in the valve train. Broken spring?

 

These dozens of possible causes for a knock like that, most of them being nasty internal stuff and very few that can be fixed easily or cheaply.

Ask the seller if they will:

a) have it fixed properly prior to sale

or

b) drop the price enough to cover the cost of a replacement engine and labour

If 'no to both, walk away.
