You have two likely possibilities. At your mileage, you may actually have a failed catalyst; that would be a bummer. Next, the 'Sub-feedback' adaptions may have never been cleared after the new sensors. Try this:

The reason the fault is still present after your rectification is because the sub-feedback* adaption value will not have had time to re-adapt after the new sensors are fitted. The procedure to get around this situation is to disconnect the battery for about 10 minutes to reset the sub-feedback adaption values. This procedure will reset all adaption values and so the ignition should be cycled (on for 10 seconds, off for 10 seconds) a couple of times to allow closed throttle learning to happen.

It's worth a try.......

Thank you for your reply. So clear the code first...then disconnect the battery for 10 min? A few questions regarding this....
Will I have to reprogram my blue tooth, radio and seats - also will I need the code for the raido to get it to work? Any other surprises when disconnecting the battery?
I appreciate the help...thank you.
(I have the touch screen nav in my car)

Battery disconnect will clear the code.

Usually USA/Can don't have radio codes but goo idea to have it available. I think the BT will be kept (not sure). Same with the seats. One-touch windows will need redoing as per handbook.

Actually, John, the battery disconnection won't clear any codes; that hasn't cleared codes since the XJ40's. He'll need to use a scantool to reset.

Good on all other points, though if the radio is improperly set for a non-US/Canada market, he may need a code. hat does happen sometimes.

Also, once the battery is re-connected, wait 30 seconds before turning on the ignition so the Climate Control can have time to re-index the mode doors.

Cheers,

Er.... people post here & on the UK forum that they've cleared codes (*) by disconnecting the battery of an S-Type. What's going on? Who's right?

(*) just the ones in the PCM and of course not permanent / history codes

Did you ever get a definitive resolution on your 2099 code? My 2006 STR threw this code today. Rear O2 sensors? Car has 72k miles on it so I dont imagine the cat is bad but I guess it could be.
Thanks!
JC

A misfire can destroy cats in days depending on the severity, so milage is no guarantee the cats are good

There are specific codes for the sensors so you're likely looking at something else. Maybe a failing cat conv.

I know this is a really late reply (years), but I went overseas on a work assignment and left the issue unresolved. A month ago I replaced all 4 oxygen sensors and the code and engine light are resolved (even though no specific codes were thrown indicating a bad sensor). Thank God it wasn't the cats.

I've tried on my '05 STR and no, they stayed. I have a scanner but decided to try just for the heck of it. I also found it interesting that the readiness monitors were set after only a short drive, most cars take between many miles and eternity.
