Default S Type headlight adjusters

Hello all;

Both the raise and lower portion of my headlights are broken and have ordered new replacements, soooo--

Has anyone done this repair and if you have, are there any "best" ways to go about it? Comments or videos/pictures much appreciated.

Cheers-------

Chuck,

Lots of info here on the forums. If regular halogen lights. Best to take headlamp items apart then put the head lamp housing in an oven (on a tray) at 200 deg for about 8 mins.

The halfs will pull apart after you release the tabs around the housing.

Swap out the broken adjusters. Put both halves back in oven for about 6 mins and squeeze back together, press tabs in and let cool for about 25 mins then put parts back on.

That's what I did for my 2000 S Type halogen head lamp assemblies. Worked like a charm and they're still adjusting as necessary.

Ordered the adjusters from a seller in Poland via eBay.

Nice parts that had metal reinforcements..

Also, be sure to thoroughly clean the INSIDE of each headlight lens before gluing them back together. This will remove any haze or smudges on the inside of the lenses, making them look almost new again. Once they've been reassembled you won't have another opportunity to do this.

You can separate them without putting into oven, but a little more work required. If you can put them in the oven.

Heat guns and hair dryers have been mentioned in other posts. Whatever the method, you'll have to bring heat to bear along the seams in order to soften the adhesive. I'd steer clear of the gas or charcoal grille! Panama City? If you have a black or darkish car, you could probably get by waiting until July and putting them inside that parked out in the sun. My Black Excursion reliably hits 150F + from June-Aug in N. Texas if parked facing West in full sun.
Send the wife out shopping. Don't ever admit that you put a car-part in the oven or you'll have to replace the oven.

200 deg? that is way too much even in fahrenheit not to mention celsius.
70 degrees velsius is enough, though you need more time.

I had zero issues at this temp... I basically used the "warm" setting on my oven.

Personally I didn't like the sound of putting my lights in the oven, plus 'er in doors was not about to let me! So I used my heat-gun. I just went around the seam for about 5 mins making sure that no plastic started to melt and the two halves then just pulled away easily. Putting them back together was a breeze as the clear plastic covers have clips all around the edges if you heat up the seam again using the heat-gun they will squash together to allow those clips to click into place.

All:
I think we can put this thread to bed for now.

I ended up using my heat gun and made the repairs with good results. Had to do it twice. First time I forgot the middle "holding" fixture---most important!!

Cheers
