Default S Type Ignition Coil Pack

All,

I have a 2005 Jaguar S-Type R and I am about due to change my spark plugs. According to the previous owner's service history the spark plugs and ignition coils are original. Should I go ahead and replace my ignition coils with the spark plugs? If so, what are the most reliable, best bang for your buck ignition coils?

Autozone sells a direct fit at 49.99 a piece (Duralast), but sells the multi-pack (8 coils) for 200 bucks. This is by far the best deal I have found, Delphi runs about 53 per coil and I found the Factory Jag Coils for 75 per. I searched the S-Type forum but haven't found much regarding the best brand/price ignition coil or when to change them other than when they have already failed.

Hope somebody can help. Thank you!

As they cost so much and are not (I hope!) throwing codes I would keep the coils.

Buy one good spare by all means.

Plugs are NGK IFR5N10 and are both pre-gapped (if you check, treat the central electrode VERY gently) and have an anti-seize coating.

Take plugs out with pretty hot engine or they may be very tight.

No codes have been thrown! I'm getting up there in miles so I figured I would ask the Forum if it would be worth it or not while I'm "under the hood." I might buy a spare factory replacement just in case and then replace them as they go. Seems more economical LOL.

Thank you for the advice and plug replacement tips!

Remember if you are working on a hot engine that if you tighten the spark plugs hard down in the hot head they might be real unhappy to come out next time.

Good point although by the time you get them all out (if you don't put the new ones straight in) it'll have cooled down quite a bit.
