S-Type Premium audio CD header change issue
I have a problem with changing the CD header unit in my 2003 S-Type. I have the premium audio system, without navigation but with Motorola phone handset. The bottom LCD screen used to display audio and phone info doesn't illuminate at night and occasionally on a hot day, displays nothing at all until you give it a gentle 'tap'.
I found a replacement unit on eBay which is the exact model and version - I swapped them over - but get no sound and the message 'no phone' - everything else works ok (radio/cd etc)
My question is... if this replacement unit was from a car without premium sound, is there a way to tell the header unit it's now a premium system? And why doesn't it recognise the phone system?
Before sending the replacement unit back I wanted to eliminate that I haven't missed something obvious along the lines of configuration.
Any help and advice would be appreciated!
Many thanks, Matt

There were some Jaguar radio head units that were 'switchable' premium sound and except premium sound but I don't remember what model and what years.
Most were dedicated units and needed to be correct for the sound system.
Is there a slide switch on the side of the head unit?

I think you will find that all the head units are the same.
The later ones with the NAV screen from 05MY (2004 build) are set at the factory to automaticly switch when the amp and other units are detected on the fibre d2b network.
Before 05MY you had to activate each module in the hidden menu or by using the jaguar SDD software.
It is just a guess, but the non NAV screen head units may well be the same on pre-05MY cars, except without the NAV screen you have to use the Jaguar software to activate the modules.
For an 03MY car you need to use the Jaguar IDS software as SDD only works from 05MY onwards.
But as I have never had to do this I could be wrong??
