Default S-Type R intercoolers VS XKR intercoolers ( for 4.2 engine )

Hi forum,

this is the first time that i write on S-Type R page.

i want know if i can change my XKR intercoolers with S-Type R intercoolers.

this is because i think that i can do dynamic air induction like S-type R by Ferlito but this is possible only with S-Type R configuration.

What part i must change?

do you think that it is possible?

Many thanks

It should fit on the engine just fine, but I doubt you would be able to close the bonnet. There is not much clearance as it is.

Maybe if you did one with a ram air hood scoop?

our idea is to do a direct air intake but also a new bonnet like Arden

Yes, all the STR parts will fit on your engine. You will need the intercoolers, the rear inlet manifold, don't know if the XJR throttle body will fit, or if you need to use the STR throttle body. You will need the STR EGR body and tube, if your car has a different EGR tube on the exhaust manifold you will have to adapt it some how. You will need the STR superchargers outlet manifold and flex joints so that you will match up with the bypass valve and its flex coupler. Hopefully you will get the vacuum valve that operates the bypass valve with the inlet manifold. Once you have all these parts, you can put on your new style inlet manifold.
Probably cost you $600 to $1K for all the parts off E-bay.

There are still people wondering which inlet sytem and intercoolers are better. STR style or XKR. Air flows and distributes into the STR intercoolers more evenly, and they both have the same size cores, but the STR's 180 degree inlet through the throttle body appears to be more restrictive.

On a stock motor, other than your proposed inlet style looking good, doub't if you will gain more than a few HP changing the inlet and all the associated parts. A lot of money for looks and small gains. Go for it! sound like a fun small project. Or,

Save your money and put on an AVOS KB twin screw...

One other comment. If you look at the race car images you posted, I would wager that they wanted the space where the stock air intake sits for their oil recovery container. Not much room in the STR's engine compartment to place a large container. They probably figured that a straight in air intake gained them a little more outside cool air and some needed space. Several years ago, I did a lot of research on trying to contact the race team and the company that prepped those cars. I wrote them several E-mails and they never responded.

No need to ebay. Just buy all of those from my garage - and maybe some more interesting performance parts
