Default S-Type R MPG

Hi,
I have a 2003 S-Type R and I am getting a constant 13.4 MPG with an average speed of 13.5 MPH according to my dash readings. is this typical for this car? It seems low to me. Just curious.
Thanks, Gary

The dash readings are very inaccurate...don't go by it. Use the old fashion calculation and that will give you a good idea. Expect about 18mpg in the city.

Well after checking the milage twice the old fashion way I'm getting just over 12 MPG. That sucks!

Yup. 12mpg sucks big time ! I thought mine was bad at 17. At least you've got the R and not the ordinary 3.0L

17 would be great! I get about 200 miles per tank from full to low fuel light. I would love to know how many miles you guy's are getting per tank and what size motors you have.

Well, when I drive with the sports mode on, I get about 16 mpg. That's ******* it all the time. With the light off, and driving like a bitch, I get about 24 mpg. But that bores me so I get about 17 to 18 mpg average.

Is there a way to have the engine managment system checked to see if there is something causing eccessive fuel use?

Not that i know off...you using the right octane fuel? When was the last time you change oil, fuel and air filters?

Proper air pressure in tires?

I'm using 93 octane fuel, Had the oil changed last week and the air filter looks good. I'm not sure about the fuel filters. I do run the tire pressure a little low to soften the ride of the 18's a bit.

Well it just sounds like you have a bad case of lead foot...lol

I would fill the tires up with the proper amount of air pressure though...does make a difference in the drag...

No lead foot just a big brick but even if I granny it I still seem to get aprox. the same milage. I'll try adding a little air to the tires but I'm looking for 2 to 3 more MPG.
