Check this link for "member recommended" scantools:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/g...-%2A%2A-33347/

There's lower cost options that will clear the MIL than the one you've spotted. A few tools are reported to have linking or accurate code reading issues on Jaguars.

He probably just doesn't know what an STR is. It should work fine, but realise it only supports the PCM. Good value, though.

However, whether there is software for it on the Mac I don't know. Some, probably.

I bought an ELM327 for my 99 3lt S type. It reads the live data but not any fault codes!

What??? If it does live data it sure should and can do fault codes. Unless you don't have any...

What software are you using with it?

The car had been going in and out of failsafe mode and then on a 170 mile trip down from Aberdeen three weeks ago it shut down 7 or 8 times all though it hasn't done it since. So when I installed the code reader I was realy expecting to see some codes!

See the codes PDF and you'll see the conditions are fairly specific so if a car's poorly enough / situation varies it cannot tell which code to flag.

If the ECU has shut the engine down, even only once, then should it not show the reason why?

I have posted before that my $14 Chinese USB ELM tool is working fine on my 2005 STR. Using ScanXL software on laptop. Can data log and I have some custom "dashboards" to try out monitoring things. You don't get all that the dealer does but I can read and clear codes.
Still learning!

By no means am I an expert on what scanners will work or not...I recently took the plunge (before finding this site and the list of suitable scanners) on an Autel unit, they seem to be well respected around the bazaars in UK.

I bought an Autel Maxscan 509 from a seller on Ebay "beat-the-garage"
Autel MS509 Diagnostic OBD2 Fault Code Reader Scanner | eBay

Asked the seller if it would or wouldn't work, he wasn't sure, but offered a refund if it didn't - others won't! Happily it connected straight away...easy to use too.

Ouch! Pretty expensive for what it is. Still, probably cheaper than 1 trip to the dealer...
