I purchased a 00 s-type 4.0 with codes but no 0420, other wise would have done better on the price. cleared the 0304 & 0305 with a set of new coils, left only the 1183 which when cleared returns after I shut off the engine and restart. Now comes the 0420 but not every time after a shut down unless I drive 10 miles or so. My question, and this after a nice 120 mile run to Cheyenne up I-25 and return with out shutting off engine. No engine light on the entire trip, not until I shut off the engine and restart, both the 1183 and the 0420 returned??
My 740il BMW 's engine light would respond immediately when it detected a problem, is this delay normal for a Jaguar? or do I have a difference problem than what the codes are showing. A two hour run on the Interstate should have triggered the light if there was a problem, or am I wrong.

 

Many DTCs are 2-trip meaning that the fault will only log after 2 events. The faults should register as PENDING during the first trip and then log a fault on the second trip.
