Default Temp gauge inop:

This damn car is gonna be the death of me yet! Every week it seems like something goes wrong with it.... Ok so I drove the car to work this morning which is 45 miles. No problems. Start the car to drive home and the temp gauge did not move the entire way home. Stayed on cold. Doesn't even move a hair. Shut the car off several times and re started it thinking it may reset it. Everything else is working fine. No check engine light either. And the fluid level is full! Is this common or an easy fix?

Very rare.

I suggest ETM and watch the gauge sweep though I can't recall if it sweeps that one as well.

Do you have ETM? Well, would help to fill in your car details:

Give the dash a bit of a whack, it could be as simple as a sticking stepper motor.

Disconnect the battery for a minute and reconnect it. See if it start to work after that.

It is relatively rare, but the electronics that controls the stepper motor can 'crash' and lock up. Disconnecting the battery and reconnecting resets it.

Another thought, maybe its the cooler spark plugs that you have put in in causing much cooler temp.

Wasn't going to go there.............

Was there not also some discussion of changing the thermostat setting or am I thinking of something else?

There was but I haven't done it yet. And like I said it's been working fine. Started the car after work, let it run for a few minutes, gauge seemed like it was starting to climb then just like that it dropped all the way to cold. Like the needle snapped or something. And hasn't moved or budged since...

Check ECT using ETM or OBD then you know if it's the sensor or the gauge.
