It's time for an oil change, quicke question. What kind of il do you guys reccomend? second is it worth taking to jauar and letting them do it or should i just let valvoline do it? Don't know how mportantit is to have jaguar do all of the service on it.

 

Not important for Jaguar to do the oil change, and I think that the oil really depends on the mileage. I would use the K and N oil filter though, and don't go cheap on the most vital part of your engine life.

Not necessarily. I wouldn't go to synthetic if the car has been on non-synthetic for over 75K miles. I wouldn't go synthetic on a nikasil engine either.

 

hmm that came as a surprise normally people go to all synthetic oil.

 

You shouldn't go cheap for a filter, but there are good filters out there. Fram DOUBLE GUARD (not other frams) isn'ta badfilter, others may argrue however if you google negatives on ANY oil filter, you'll find tons of people that had problems with them all.

I feel the oil is where to spend extra money. 5qts of Mobil1 is about $20 (7qts is need for a 4.2l). Bigdreams is correct that synthetic oil has smaller molecules and will "bleed" through aged/weakened seals before a natural oil would. However, if you have aged/weakened seals, any fluid will eventually leak through them. An engine with synthetic will run slightly cool and will keep parts lubricated longer.

To add a story, I had SRT-4 for a while and AutoXed regularly. SRT-4s have a pressed oil gear, meaning it's weakespecially when modified the engine to create more power. In 2003, when the car first came out, this wasn't a known problem. People would race which puts a lot of stress on the engine, see the oil light come on and be baffled to why. It was later determined that the gear would break apart which stops all oil from circuluation. I witnessed4 people who had mobil1 in their engines with no oil circulation, that had no noticable effects. I witnessed two who didn't, one was completely seized on the spot while the other needed a overhual within a few thousand miles.

 

FRAM? Hate to disagree, but fram is NOT a quality filter. Look up feedback on the filters and you'll see that Fram is the worst of the bunch. They tend to disintegrate inside and send small particles of metal into your engine. metal loose in engine=not good. I would only go K and N, mobil, and worst case scenario, pureone(the more expensive of their two filters)!

 

I edited my most recent post to clarify that the fram double guard filter brand is a great product. All other fram filters are not as good.
