Hay all,
Ive got some qwestions about my project.
Im converting an 1999 3.0 v6 to an facelift 4.2 v8.
And cant find the info i need online.
Are bilstein comfort shock and bilstein sport shock the same fitment?
And are the back shocks engine specific?
Because i only can find sport front 4.2 shocks and not the rears on ebay.
Want lowering springs but can only can find them for an r model. Wil they fit? I think an r has the same nose weight as an normal 4.2?
Suspention bushes.
Car wil be on facelift suspention.
Most of them are shot/worn
But whats way to go?
Powerflex purple or black?
Got already purple on my ford focus so i know what diffrence they make but the s-type is heavier and rear wheel drive with more power.
Subframe bushes
New oems or is there an better one?
Swaybar
Is an r swaybar diffrent to an 4.2 bar?
In the furture if the conversion is complete i whant to put some r brembos at the front as improvement/eyecandy. Do they fit or do i need r hubs and other parts?
Know i need hubs for the rear if i whant them.
Goal with the car is an sporty car (close as possible to an r) that wil be also the towcar. But no racecar, ist stil an jaguar with al the heavy luxery
So cooling upgrades tips for the engine/gearbox are welcome.
Selling and just buy an r is not an option.
ive already asked this on facebook but got awnsers there.
Hi Henri, can you please just clarify whether you are intending to make your 99 V6 look like a 4.2 V8 facelift model in terms of cosmetics/appearance only?

no, it wil have the 4.2 v8 and 6 speed auto box😋
and al the faceliftgoodies.
The black one is the 4.2 donor(car is totaly rusted and almost stripped)
bottum one(green one) is the project that was an 3.0 v6 and it wil have this v8 at the end
Hope you have loads of cash and time on your hands. Good luck with that!
Let me elaborate.
First, PATS will not work considering it will not recognize the PCM so no crank, fuel pressure, etc.
Second, the CAN network is non existant in the 1999.25 - 2002 MY so no communications to any of the sub modules (ex:BCM) will be possible.
Third, the transmission has it's own TCM. The 5RN55 trans is operated off the PCM.
Fourth, the gauge cluster will not work and...
Fifth, even if you get all these items to sync - you need to swap out the fuel system, pump, etc.
im sure it wil just fire up and everythin wil work😉 not the fist enige swap ive done.
Only thing that wil be from te 1999 model is only the shel and bodywork. Know i need al the wiring and facelift stuff for it to work. That why i got an complete donor car.
Various mechanicals were changed to get the 4.2 in and more still for the R. Study the many PDFs etc on the site for clues and info plus look closely at parts diagrams etc.
Yes you'll need all the modules and wiring so a huge pain.
It feels like you ought to be able to sell your time and bring in more than enough money to just buy an R, though.

and r model here costs over 10k euros and then you stil have to put in money for maintanache it didnt get.
And these 2 jags where cheap(1 from famaly and as scrapper)
also if you see the non facelift shell and the facelift shell you can clearly see that te prefacelift sills are closed and the facelift sills are open and full of crap( dirt and salt) so im using the prefacelift shell.
Getting it running is not the problem, im sure it wil.
Just whant some awnsers on my qwestions..
already know that an s-type r swaybar is diffrent than an 4.2 na but its the same on a 2.7 hdi diesel(number are the same from an jaguar wrecker over here)
so no more cost to mutch money/time/get another car posts🙃
But that are not the awnsers im looking for...[/QUOTE]
You won't get the answers you are looking for because it (from what is on this forum) has never been completed completely by anyone. We have had tons of people come on here and say they are going to do it . Very adamant in their determination but don't come back to show the completed and correctly operating car for daily use, also pass inspections etc.
I am looking forward to hearing about how this turns out . You will be a trailblazer if you succeed. I am not discouraging you. Go for it. Just no help here. Good luck.
so no more cost too much money/time/get another car posts🙃
How about a post asking if you can legally register it? That’s an entirely different category, and not covered in your ban.
Your profile says you’re from Rossum. Is that the Netherlands? What is your emissions testing and registration process?
For me (Oregon USA) it’s a two step process. First the car has to pass an emissions test and then I can take that certificate to start the registration process.
Here’s where I think you may hit a wall, if your process is anything like ours. The actual emissions test is a piece of cake. The attendant simply plugs his big fancy computer into the OBD port under the dash. Among other things, it displays the VIN. The next step is a scan of the VIN tag on the door jamb. If the tag and OBD data don’t agree, I’m stuck. The vehicle can’t be registered with a VIN disagree.
There may an official process to deal with such things, but you’d be at the mercy of some bureaucrat. You may end up with a salvage title.

Getting the v8 on paper is an pice of cake here in holland. Becuase it came out of an s-type and wil go in an s-type So ist only cheaking of the engine is mounted properly and weiging the car(for the road tax) then the paperwork if i didn steal the engine. Done a few cars already.
if it was an mustang v8 or so its mutch more work. Then this whole project wasnt stated( im crazy but not an iddiot😆

In my eyes the qwestions i asked can be done as an upgrade to an normal 4.2 s-type.
Like the sc sway bar/springs/shocks/bushes/cooling ect
so noting with the swap itself, that is up to myself and i know that.
And im not giving up easy if something doest work 😋
As for shocks... they are simple mechanical devices that have extended and compressed limits. And the "home" position generally won't matter. I say just check that you have full travel in both directions and they should swap ok.
And for cooling, the OEM radiator size, water pump, and degas bottle are all engineered to support this engine for extended high load times. As long as you have not decreased air flow from the upper and lower grill as compared to the V8 car.. the stock parts will work well. No mods really needed. Just try to replicate what the V8 car had and you'll be ok.
