Default Tyre noise

I'd be grateful to anyone who has experience with and can recommend tyres that relay the least noise into the cabin. I have a 2004 S Type, lovely car, 18 inch wheels shod with Continentals. I don't know if it's the tyres or the roads, but on certain surfaces I find them very noisy. I'm particularly noise sensitive and would like to find the quietest tyres possible that are available here in Australia. Speed rating is surely not an issue with our 110 kmh speed limits, but grip particularly in the wet is important.

I can give some generic advise.

Design: Assuming the tire is in good condition, concentric to the rim, and limiting the subject to tread.. here is a good read -> https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiret...jsp?techid=310

Even wear and less noise = rotating tires **before** wear patterns develop. I recommend rotating no more than every 5k miles (8k Kilometers)

18" is part of the problem. 17" would be better (you keep the overall size the same and so get more sidewall). 16" if they fit over the brakes would be better still.

I agree. So many people want short side walls. But the reduced ability to absorb bumps and uneven loads (cupped shape in road) only degrades ride and handling. There is a reason why professional race cars DON'T have short sidewalls.

Thank you for your interesting comment, I didn't know this - however it doesn't answer my query as I'm not about to replace the wheels!

Thank you, this is helpful and with information I did not know. Still wondering what tyres would be least noisy for this particular car?

In response to your tyre noise....
I recently purchased another str and had the entire car looked and was told tyres were still good.
I was heading out to dinner one night noticed the tyre on the driver back seemed lower i went to add and it seemed resistent to take the air at first but did. I went to dinner than 2 hours later headed home and it was SO LOUD!!!!
i got home went to touch the tyre to check it out and the rubber was hot.
Next day i went ti get a replacement they said you dont need it. Has not done it since. Very odd....

Dragging brake which has since released?

Bearing on its way out?

Whatever it it s it'll probably do it again.
