What Are My Options for Failed Catalytic Converters on 2000 S-Type
My 2000 S-Type 3.0 has Catalyst Below Threshold DTC fault and a O2 Sensor fault. I took it to the dealer and they told me both catalytic converters have failed (along with an O2 sensor). Engine performance is good and I do not feel any degredation in performance. The dealer told me that I should be OK driving as is and that I might consider a local shop to replace them (to save $). So my plan is to keep driving as is and deal with the annoying check engine light (it comes back on 1 day after I clear it).
So will there be a point in time where I will start to lose performance?
After did some research online if I decide to replace them, and the only catalytic converters I could find are made by DEC.
Here are the parts: http://www2.partstrain.com/store/?Nt...94966995+10833
If I purchased these (1 for the drivers side, 1 for the passenger side), what kind of shop could/would install them? How much should I expect to pay in labor? Is this my only option for replacement?
Thanks in advance for your help.

The cats are covered under 8 year 80k emissions warranty. If your car falls into that, dealer will do it free with no out of pocket to you.
You need to find the original date of sale of your vehicle, unless you are over 80k at which point it is irrelevant.

go to an exhaust shop and have them weld in a new aftermarket one.. 1/3 of the price. and make sure its the proper side they replace..lol
Well if they arent clogged...to get rid of the check engine light go to your local parts store and buy 2 sparkplug anti-foulers. Drill one of the foulers out with a 1/2" drill bit at the bottom where it has the smaller hole and screw the rear 02 sensor into it and then the other antifouler onto the end of that one. screw it back into place and your check engine light will be gone. (this is assuming that your 02 sensors are not bad to begin with). It is an old trick, but works from what i have seen.
yeah...i forgot to add that.
You could drive backwards 1000 miles LMAO (wouldn't work just a FYI)

Hey, could a good hi-perf cat work and would the flow send off codes? I want hi-flo cats on my STR and have concerns as well about HP, MPG etc...
As long as the 02 sensors see the change from upstream to downstream, there will not be a problem. Many people put full exhaust systems on their vehicle including the cat.
Whichever one you decide on, make sure the manufacturer of the cat guarentees it will work with your sensors.

Will the exhaust shop be be able to get an aftermarket catalytic coverter is the compliant with all the OBD exhaust sensors? Are the DEC catalytic converters (mentioned in my 1st post) good replacements? Are they OEM?
i think they all pretty much work.. we just send our customers.. to a muffler shop.. and they put on what ever cat they have in stock always works great and saves lost of money.
