Default What is the name of plastic panel that is underneath the car ?

Hi there~
the other day, unfortunately My 03 jag was hit by a big ice stone on highway, and plastic panel underneath the car was damaged. little portion of left-front side was totally broken so that I had to cut if off by using little saw. As time goes by, other plastic portion seems like getting worse, i mean it might be depressed in few days lol...

I think I may have to replace it asap!

so, please let me know exact name of it, and how much it could be plus where I can find it! ( cuz I was find it online store, but I couldn find it!)

Thx for your reading

The most common name I've seen for it is simply "the underbody tray". Some manufacturers call them "shields" or "splash panels". Call your closest dealer service department, mention these names, and ask for the official name. Unfortunately, it will be a dealer-only item so you know it will be expensive. My guess would be at least $250 and I wouldn't be surprised if it is actually $300 or more....

kblood,

If you have all the pieces you could try repairing it. If it is ABS plastic, there are some products out there for that. Motorcycle shops may be a source since riders frequently prang their bodywork. I don't think it's a show-stopper, but you should try to fix it or replace fairly quickly owing to the electronic bits. $250-300 might be a bit low however. I would guess somewhere over $500. Some of our resident techs or parts guys might have a more accurate figure though.

Mike

Undertray would be your animal. They cost about $160. However, they are large. Shipping is the big kicker. They must travel oversized by UPS or FedEx. Shipping would come in around $40 to $50. They weigh nothing, it's the dimensional weight that UPS uses to calculate the cost.

If you have any local wreckers, worth some calls. But $160-ish... not too bad, maybe you could collect.

Not to step on Gabriel's toes. Try www.car-part.com is a local salvage yard search engine.

that undertray keeps water from getting up into the engine bay..MissC, you by chance drive thru any puddles lately, large enough to steam when it hits the underside of the exhaust? Condensation will get up and around that throttlebody and connectors, wouldn't be the first time. Just something to check. Open the hood (if you're in a garage) and dry her out.

I actually just had that bottom panel come off last week. I hear a noise as I'm on the highway, when I got home I looked around the car and saw I had been dragging it. One of the L-brackets towards the back had been mangled, no doubt it was from a chunk of ice that's plagued the roads in Ohio lately. Some screws were missing too. At least I still have the panel, I just haven't felt like crawling on the garage floor lately to put it back on.

Ill check shipping for you, I have one for the 4.2 and the 3.0. the only difference is that the 4.2 has three slits or holes for air. I need the cash I just snapped my supercharger belt and noticed that the snout behind the pulley has a big chunk broke. It spins freely but who knows.
