Exclamation When it rains it pours........need help or advice

Ok I recent had an issue with my 2000 4.0 s-type.....same issue I've read other had where parking on an incline n then the car is stuck in park. Well after having it towed I was able to actually put the car into gear and drive. Well after 2 weeks of good driving, I drive my car 2 miles get out take care of business and get back in the car. I realize that it moves into gear a lot easier than normal n I also realived that the P is still lit and ut hasn't changed gears, so now it's not goin into n e gear but the shift knob moves as it normally would. N e idea or solution to this issue?

There is a piece of plastic that breaks internally in the shifter assembly. I have a metal replacement piece for $175.

It's not that piece but I do need that though.....that plastic part was the issue before but now it's not.....I think it might b the transmission which I hope it isn't..

As far as that metal replacementbis it difficult to install?

The shift knob isn't moving around freely, I still have to step on the brake to move it into gear and it moves fine it just won't actually go into gear

It's ****ed

Seriously if it was shifting normally after it locked it could still be a linkage problem.

Yup, sounds like a linkage issue to me as well. Major signs. Drove fine right before the problem. Had the "sticking in park" issue before. Shifter moves into gears but the indicator still says "P" and the transmission doesn't engage. This is one that I would not be afraid to tackle. Pull apart the console and check the shifter. Then get under the car and follow the linkage to the transmission. I would bet you'll discover the problem as you trace it back. Do you have JTIS?

It is a service manual that is on a CD Rom. It is widely available on e-bay. Here is a link.

Please, though... Check sellers real well before you buy. The link above is just a reference and not an endorsement.

JTIS = Jaguar Technical Information Service

I only paid $9 on Ebay for the disc.

Had the weirdest thing happen the other day. Driving and got a "Gear Fault" message and tranny would go down but not back up. Pulled over, turned it off and it went away....
