I have a 2006 Jaguar s type 3.0. im trying to reach out to other s type owners about my cracked wood grain dash does anyone know who can repair that I heard it has some sort of expoxy layer on top that might be able to be refinished thanks.
Madera Concepts is the company in the US officially used for warranty claims for the wood (but there are also others) -and it is real wood veneer, not plastic wood grain. The wood in your 2006 car is likely the Bronze Madrona - generally light in tone but with much darker streaking.
You could try to refinish it yourself but you would need to remove the existing finish sufficiently to eliminate the visible cracking and do so without damaging the veneer.
The cause of the cracking is heat and sun (perhaps in reverse order). A dashboard shade panel is tge preventative if tge car is regularly exposed to the sun.
When you say 'cracked' are you referring to the plastic cover/coating or the timber veneer below?
I have never seen the plastic coating cracked, it's usually the stain on the timber veneer below that becomes bleached by the UV rays.
I have done this repair and used Madera. Another vote for them as posted above because they are used by Jaguar for warranty repairs and that's how I found out about them.
My experience has been that the wood never cracks because it's a very thin paper like veneer. What cracks is the clear finish. Madera does NOT replace the wood. They are experts in removing and refinishing the factory clear coating. I also though the wood was cracking at first until I talked to Madera about my repairs.
Here is a post when I had some of the wood repaired on my old 2005 STR. I also posted as Tbird6 so a bit confusing!
Looks like they do some amazing work on the modern cars as well. The typical classic car dashes I am familiar with; stained plywood with a varnish top coat. Retrimming my Triumph Stag's top veneer. Like the modern cars it doesn't last forever. Its the stain colour that fades first and then the varnish top coat starts to crack..
Despite the extreme UV rays here the resin top coat on my STR has not cracked at all. Not sure if the humidity affects the top coat more than the UV rays? Don't get a lot of humidity here.
Problem here though is the timber layer bleaching badly and rapidly. Means the resin needs to come off and the veneer layer re-stained etc etc.
Yes you can refinish the wood and people have successfully. BUT watch out as the wood is really just paper thin and you will go thru it in a flash if not careful.
I can't see why or how it cracks either? I had Madera refinish both big dash wood panels and then had the car about 4 more years with no other cracks showing up?
With the level of vinyl wrapping these days you might consider that as opposed to sanding and refinishing the wood? Many options with vinyl and completely reversible so no harm and no foul if it does not work.

As mine has bleached badly, I thought of trying to drop a set of x200 window switch veneers in a can of timber stain and see if the timber veneer soaks it up.
May save me a fortune in re-veneering!
Since you love those Stag's, here's a few photos of the USA spec model for the US 73 year.
