Work transferring me to united Kingdom
Hello everyone
this question is for the jaguar lovers in the United Kingdom
My work is looking at transferring me to Nottingham in the United Kingdom for two years
So now I am trying to get my head around things
trying to make sense of it all
My wife and I have been watching a television show here in New Zealand called car pound cops based all over the United Kingdom
Here goes in nz yes we have
Vehicle Registration that cost $140.00 nzd or £63.00 pound sterling
Vehicle insurance at $500.00 nzd or £223.00 pound sterling
But in new Zealand the insurance is for Vehicle and anyone
with a full license is covered to drive that vehicle
BUT PLEASE NOTE VEHICLE INSURANCE IS NOT COMPULSORY YOU DONT HAVE TO HAVE IT TO DRIVE ON NZ ROADS
We have what you call warrant of fitness once a year
which cost $ 80.00 nzd or £ 35 pound sterling
This is what I have seen on television
On car pound cops it shows them using number plate Recognition scanners
we don't have them over here
People being pulled over by police
For no insurance and there car gets impounded
no mot car gets impounded
no registration car gets impounded
So I was just wondering if that **** really true
As in New Zealand if you get pulled over by police
And you have no insurance they can't do anything
if pulled over and have no registration it a $200.00 nzd fine
and you drive off in your car
If you have no wof it is a $200.00 nzd fine and you drive off in your car
for example if you have a tire with no tread you will get a $150.00 ticket but have 14 days to get it replaced and fine is dropped
In New Zealand you have to do something really stupid to get a vehicle impounded and have 28 days to get it out
My next question
I will be looking for two jaguar s-types one for my wife and one for myself yes we have RHD as well so no problem there
so how available are the s type to get hold of
I will be looking for a str and a 4.2 n/a
Both are extremely hard to get in nz
Most are v6 over here
Thanking you
Darrol

Yes, the cops are quite officious over here. You absolutely MUST have licence, insurance, MOT and a roadworthy vehicle. Bald tyres can get you a big fine (up to £1000 per tyre, if memory serves). There are speed cameras everywhere, so you have to keep a close eye on your speedo (I use cruise control a lot because of this). If you get caught speeding you will get a fine and points on your licence and your car insurance will get more expensive when you come to renew it if you have points. You can get yourself an STR if you want, but there is so much traffic on the roads and speed cameras that you will not be able to use the power much.
Oh and I forgot to say, if your car gets seized, you will have to pay storage fees and a fine to get it back.
STRs are about £5000-7000 for an average model on ebay. But I saw a mint low mileage one for £11450.
However, a good V6 model is a lot cheaper and still has up to 240bhp.

Even Australia has ridiculously high fines for every crap - I did not know, that "everything goes" in NZ...
In GB it's like in Germany: High fines for everything. But if nothing has changed in Germany (and maybe it's the same in GB): While a car-insurance is mandatory (I mean the real car insurance as in "third party property), it is fairly cheap. The crappy rip-off nonsense we have in Australia (green slip) does not exist in Germany, at least I never gave it a thought, when I lived there - I definitely do not have to pay for a green slip (it may well be that it is included in the proper insurance without much addl. costs). For the rest of the world, who does not understand what a green slip is: Under the pretence of being an insurance, drivers are forced to fork out a lot of money every year in AUS (about AUD$550), without being actually insured in return: It is for damages to other people only, not for damage caused to other things or cars - the latter one is the insurance, which you do not need in Australia by law. So, a lot of money for nothing - a second tax that is on top of the actual tax, which is about AUD$400.
Those are just my thoughts about that...
I drove around in GB myself, but on a German number-plate with a LHD-car.
But this is hopefully good advise for you: If you plan to leave that island (GB) via ferry or car-train and go to Europe, here is what I did:
I glued a sunglass-holder onto the dashboard (in the middle) and this was my holder for a little bit of cardboard with a big arrow pointing to the side painted on it.
When driving in the UK that arrow pointed to the LEFT, and when driving in Europe, I turned it around so that it pointed to the RIGHT. I needed that so that I knew on which side of the road to drive (as I was commuting every fortnight between GB & Germany (once I was with my car on the Hovercraft, which sadly does not exist anymore...)

Guess it might be a Culture shock
Here is the prices we pay
sorry couldn't get a insurance one since it not Compulsory to have car insurance
yes we have a few speed cameras around
But one of the best investments was my uniden r8 radar detector
Put one in wifes car and she stopped getting speed camera fines

No idea 🤷♂️
hi yes I have looked into shipping two cars to the United
but far to expensive
I have to have the vehicle's valued in New Zealand
for documentation to import to united Kingdom
And they want to know where vehicle's were manufactured/ built
I'm ok there as they were built in united Kingdom but sold brand new in New Zealand so done to united Kingdom laws
as the s type 4.2 v8 is not common they hold there price
you would normally pay around 15 thousand for one
Then you have the str even more rear you are looking at
22 thousand plus for a good tidy one
then paperwork for exporting them plus nz custom fees
which is $2000.00 per vehicle if out of country for more than 6 months
then shipping at $3000.00 per vehicle
then when they arrive in united Kingdom
You have to pay vat of 20% of value of vehicle's and shipping and other costs
then you have 10% customs costs
so a lot cheaper to purchase a couple in united Kingdom
Thanking you

Good points: Used cars are pretty cheap in the UK, especially those with bigger engines and brands with overly-expensive parts prices.
The law: The UK (and basically the rest of western Europe) seems quite different to NZ but it isn't so hard to stay on the right side of the law, just expensive!
On top of buying, fueling and maintaining the car, you have to budget for:
Insurance

On top of buying, fueling and maintaining the car, you have to budget for:
Insurance
- 3rd party insurance is mandatory and cost rises with insured risk.
- If you want to insure the car for damage you might do to it, that is extra (Comprehensive policy)
- Cost calculated on official CO2 emissions. Basically the bigger the car and engine, the more you pay. The calculation method was changed at some point, after which some VED costs rose significantly. Not sure of the details though.
- Every 12 months (plus anything needed to pass the test).
Bummer you have to leave your R model there. Hope it sells for a good price. I know you put a lot of work into it. Good luck getting another. I would think in the UK you would have some good choices. And good luck in your move. A lot of miles
Yes unfortunately I will be leaving them behind
But I will be only in the united Kingdom for two years
I am not selling my 2 STRs
as I have not seen any other one's with the black & red seats or black & white seats
also keeping the wifes 4.2 N/A
I am putting them into storage at my Parents property
My brother said he will take them for a drive once a month
Thanking you
Darrol
but I have found them quite economical
The str use less fuel than my daughters
2.0 Turbo charged Volkswagen Beetle
especially on long trips
Thanking you

ok we do not test for co 2 emissions
our Government did try to bring it in but Abandoned the idea
so you can de cat a vehicle no problem if you like
Not sure what everyone else pays for petrol
Example in united States I think its per gallon
But in new Zealand
We pay $2.40 per Liter of petrol for 95 octane
we pay $2.60 per liter of petrol for 100 octane
Also included in the petrol price is our road tax and gst tax
Gst is similar to vat tax or federal or state tax
in New we pay 15% which is gst
Thanking you
