Default Anyone painted their wheels?

Has anyone ever painted their wheels? I was looking at replacing my wheels for some black ones. But would it be possible to have these refurbished (curb rash) and painted black?

Certainly cheaper than new wheels and if you look around you can get all kinds of different finishes.

I did mine black. A bit of work with sandpaper, primer and spray paint and looks good. You can do it in an afternoon with a few coffee breaks.

Repainted mine, but in similar colour because they were looking sad.

Yeah did mine recently, very simple just do all the proper sandpaper and prep work. A new coat is as simple as spraying it on. Prep work is everything in painting.

Did a nice gloss black with chrome accents to match the paint on mine personally.

Check in to "plasti-dip". I am using it on mine. (silver to a dark graphite) You will find a lot of people that tell you not to use it because it wears, but I have used it on multiple cars and have never had an issue with it. When done correctly, it will last a really long time.

It is recommended to use 1 can per wheel of a base coat. This allows easy removal and 7-8 coats to prevent peeling. Good thing about it is you can change it up as much as you want with very little prep work and a very low cost. I spent about $40 USD and have everything I need to do it.

There are multiple colors/finishes available. Check out https://www.dipyourcar.com/pages/dyc-wheel-kit-builder they have a lot of products and kits to make it easier. I will post pics of mine when I do them. I am actually planning on doing them tonight.

Yes I did mine, they had a lot of curb rash so I first had to grind some of that then smooth the lips, sand, primer and paint. I changed the color too, I wanted to experiment.

Hey Mel,

That colour is great! I'm going for the dark grey on my grey 2.2. Adding red centre caps and red calipers and she should look even better.

Hey Mel,
Where did you find the calipers with the lettering?! Looks really sharp. I would love to have a set for my x type.

The letters on the calipers are decals, got them from ebay, I think I just search under caliper decals. The caliper are the stock ones, they were painted flat black to contrast.
