Started to detail my new BRG S coupe. On the passenger side just before the
rear wheel where the side skirt meets the body,there is a considerable amount
of a white "foam" substance which is in the seam. It's very noticeable on a
dark car. I read earlier posts dealing with chipping of paint in this area and the
solution was for Jaguar to use a plastic backing on these panels to give them
additional strength. I assume this is that substance that oozed over the seam.
I haven't found anything to remove it. Don't really want to use touch up paint.
Has anyone else experienced this issue in later cars? Anybody able to remove
it?

To me that looks like paint chipping off exposing the primer rather than foam, particularly in the last photo. The edges are too rough for a sealant.

 

In reading through the forum before I bought my new '16,I had thought that
Jaguar had solved this issue on earlier cars. Once again,my car has a grand
total of 87 miles and the problem is only on the passenger side. Can someone
tell me if this issue was definitely resolved?

I don't think this issue has been fully resolved. Mine doesn't look as bad as yours (lighter car color and less foam), but still present...

 

Is it on both sides? Mine is on the passenger side only. Are you going to have a dealer fix it,or let it ride?

 

Are you guys sure its not car wax from the last waxing?

 

Sadly,not. This was my first thought and used everything in my extensive
wax remover inventory. I still think it is the foam that leached out during
manufacturing. The surface of the white substance is higher then the paint
level.

 

On first look see, I thought it is where the gap between the rocker and the wing has closed up, and the panels have rubbed exposing the white base coat?

Have you tried to remove a little bit with say a pin head?

I would be inclined to dig a little out and try rubbing it between your fingers with some thinners or acetone to see what will break it down.

If it is a sealant, then once you find the product (most probably petroleum based), grab a small paint brush, cut the bristles down until it is relatively stiff, soak it and get in between the gap with that.

pretty sure it's chipping. Mine has it too (both sides) but it is not noticeable (white car) and I haven't bothered addressing it.....and unless it gets worse, I won't bother.

Only on passenger side. Panel fit doesn't look great at rear wheel arch. Drivers side looks perfect.

Will get dealer to fix it (collecting items for visit)...
