Default Boot/Trunk lock

Hi, I am trying to fix my bodged up boot lock which has arrived today but

it may as well be a bunch of 0' and 1's.

I am not sure how to put this together in order for my existing key to work. I would really appreciate any assistance. Possible YouTube clips would be great

Thanks, Zack

Default TIBBE locks

I have not needed to do this, but the technical designation for these locks is "TIBBE". A quick search reveals:

doorlockbld.htm

Best of luck, keep us posted.

You can also get a new badge to cover up the unsightly enlarged hole:

No instructions? That could be a fun half-hour.

Note that the Jaguar key has an 8 rather than 6 digit code. There don't appear to be 24 wafers in the pack so I guess it's designed to pick up on only some of the key cuts, or am I missing something?

You counted them.

Missing something? You're not missing a thing. We should change your forum ID to 'Eagle Eyes'.

I doubt Jag made keys that are all 1's, all 2's and all 3's, so that is 21 discs. Jag owners would go "WTF?" and not "Cool!" when presented the keys by the Jag dealer.

Also each key will have at least one 1, 2 or 3, so that is 18 discs.

2 of each needs only 15 discs.

Hi, I am getting even more confused. Do the latest comments mean that I have purchased the wrong thing? I have taken the plastic covers off and am just about to have a look at what is left of the original lock.
I have found a YouTube clip of a guy putting together a ford boot lock which is similar but obviously not the same. If anybody has info regarding the building of the lock I will be indebted for life

My Friday night red wine logic...

I can't find the maximum recurrence for a particular cut, but assuming 4 (mine has 4 instances of a '2' cut) then 12 wafers, 4 of each, will cover all combinations.

GZ, you haven't got the wrong thing. See above.

From what I've read, the wafers have 1,2 or 3 stamped on them. You need to assemble them in the barrel to match the order on your key. See here:
http://www.triple-c.com/How_To_Read_..._Key_Codes.cfm

for how to read the key code.

Default Stage 1

I have taken the old barrel out and it has been slightly abused. Was quite pleased with myself as I managed to do this without breaking anything.
I am planning to put together the new one tomorrow. However, as previously stated I have no instructions or reference material on how to assemble this type of lock. There are lots of parts that have come with the new barrel and I am not too sure where many of them go.
Thank you for your assistance fellas. It has helped a lot, Zack

LOL Just ever so slightly

There's a Jaguar TSB here:

courtesy of Gus and motorcarman. It's old, but it should help as a guide.

Good luck!

Hi, I have been pi##ing about with the lock for the best part of the day and have got nowhere really. I have dyspraxia which isn't helping with working out the key configuration and then the placing of the Discs. There also seems to be a metal pin missing. I have one but the diagram that I was very grateful to receive

shows two.

Zen and the art of boot lock maintenance. Well I've only gone and done it. I feel like making a rather emotional speech (thank you to all who have supported me along the way etc...). It only took around 7 hours and I still have to put plastic covers back but I have managed to build the lock and it works. It is a little stiff so I will add some grease but I now have a boot lock.
The car is at the painters next week so I will get him to tidy it up and with a new badge, it should be ok

Cheers for help, Zack
